Flagg is right, ebay/drinking > "smoking"/supermarket. Both are suicidal, but "one button" can be very expensive. So far only a couple $10 or under mistakes that I can give to friends and coworkers to promote the man.

Awesome man. The first 4-5 books will be the last ones I get and I hope mine is as half as good as yours.

That being said, I have 4 firsts on the way (The Talisman, Firestarter, Skeleton Crew, It). I decided to get my shit together and start buying King again after spending a lot on other authors. I rushed home from the gym today so I can bid on It and got it for a good price. Shipping's more than the actual book.

Thanks, yeah over the past few months my collecting goals have significantly changed from S/L's to 1st editions of the first 6 books, UK and US. This will take me a while and i'm looking forward to the challenge of finding them :) At the moment i have 3 UK and 1 in my sights and 4 US

Not sure. He sorta frowned, moaned, didnt really answer the question. I think the use of the word "fun" is what threw him off. He probably did very much enjoy writing them, and was very happy with how they turned out but "fun" is more like something you have at an amusement park...

By the way, this picture also supports my argument for why I don't care what TWTTK looks like, because there has been no real effort to make the other volumes look good together, except for the height. I do, however, prefer the dimensions of the LSOE.

Couldn't resist since the price was right. 1st/1st and seller told me the pic looks like there is discoloration to the book, but there isn't. Book in "perfect" condition and really just the one tear on the dust jacket. I have a better dust jacket to put on this book and then take this dust jacket and put it on 4th crappiest quality Gunslinger and move that dust jacket up the food chain and a couple of Gunslingers get an upgrade to their dust jackets. :)

You are a smart cookie, Cook!

Exactly what I was thinking. I think I have 5 now and am debating on selling the low man on the totem pole now or sticking with my plan to wait until movie comes out and interest gets a massive boost from the general public. REALLY hope a whole new wave of "collectors" is created from the movies and tv series. Figure that is the time to sell if I look at the books in a similar light to a "stock" price.

Last Exit Volksdorf
Die Wahrheit über Frankie
Ich bin Duke

Before Mrs Uebel started to write books, she was the co-founder of an non-profit book publishing company, she studdys graphic design... (I realy want remarques in my books, but in the q+a part of the bookpresentation, she said, that when she studdys graphic design, she find out that she CAN´T Paint well....:onfire: OK.... no remarque...
All 3 books dated 21.06.11 signed and inscribed at bookpresentation of Last Exit Volksdorf 2.nd Edition.

After a lawsuit the almost the complete first edition of Last Exit Volksdorf get destroyed, now the 2.nd Ed
is available.
Of cause i have the FIRST edition, and Mrs Uebel writes in my book: The bad book, pls tell it nowbody.. :onfire:
In the second book, The truth about Frankie (a book inspired by the story: The spy who stolen my live)
Mrs. Uebel writes in the book: The truths about YOU Frank, here you can read it....
In the third book, I´am Duke she writes: I´am Duke, you are Frank, i´am not realy Duke but Tina Uebel

I wasn't sure either Ricky.
I had seen some early signatures that appeared close, so that got me interested but I still wasn't completely sold. From there, I asked Hutch, Shibus and Bob for thier opinions and all said it was consistent with other early signatures so that was good enough for me. There is a similar signature unders discussion in the BS thread right now.

CurtSeattle

I think the signature looks good. I checked it against some the $5,000 ones on the market that are inscribed to people and it seems like it is the "old school" version of King's signature.

I just checked my signed copy of the 2nd state Salem's Lot and my signature is in the same spot as the one Surly has and it looks identical actually!!

(Well except my DJ and book are not NF like it appears this copy is....waaaa!!!)

John has been encouraging me for MONTHS to share - so this is for John. A recent acquisition: Salem's Lot (2nd printing in a 2nd state DJ) inscribed to Robert Bloch with a letter SK wrote along with the book. (I hope I uploaded the pics correctly...)

Well, I am back.

I have a mountain of work to catch up on but thank you for all of the support you have shown me during these difficult times for me and my family.

When it rains it pours....yesterday was my son's high school graduation. 90 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony, he rear-ends the car in front of him. Everyone fine but our Honda needed to be towed away. He got to graduation with 2 (count them, 2) minutes to spare. Anyway, now he is a graduate!

While I was away, I received this gem....LONG in the works with Ned Dameron. I received it the day I returned home from my mother's funeral. Made me cry. Timing couldn't have been more welcome.

So here is my lastest remarque:

FINALLY! I have some things to post here. I was kind of off collecting for awhile after buying books, receiving them, and finding that the the seller was mis-describing their condition. I swear, I must've been buying from blind dealers. Anyway, here's some of my new acquisitions:

1st/1st of The Stand: Complete and Uncut:

http://i52.tinypic.com/2db7y9v.png

1st/1st of The Talisman:

http://i54.tinypic.com/f536f4.jpg

DTVII Artist Edition (no doodles here):

Annnd, my favorite, The Talisman/Black House Gift Edition:

http://i51.tinypic.com/6s9afl.jpg

http://i53.tinypic.com/5k53l4.jpg

I had had my eyes on this for awhile, but wanted to wait until I had actually read both books to make sure I wasn't buying something I didn't like. Then read some Straub to see if I liked that as well. Really glad I bought this set (wasn't expecting it to be so big, though!).

Is it possible to get a pre-pride and joy? If so, I got one today. ;)

And it's only a matter of time before I get this one. ;)

Im a big fan of unique inscriptions. The story on this inscription is that King inscribed it to a fellow author. The author "Paul" was known for his short stories about life and relationships but had recently published a story with a dark theme. So King inscribed the book telling him to stay off the dark side. I've done a lot of searching to see if I can find out who "Paul" is but no luck. And I also thought it ironic that the main character in the book is also an author and also named Paul

If the story is true, maybe the author is Paul Theroux, and the reference is to "O-Zone" published in 1986. Here's a brief summary:

Beware, all who enter here... into the America of the 21st century, this forbidden land of nuclear waste, mutants, and aliens. Even now, so many years after the disaster, O-Zone remains under quarantine, off-limits... to all but the wealthiest Owners. To these eight Owners, it is amusement, a New Year's Eve picnic. The land's wild beauty awes them -- but the aliens are a shock: the two the Owners kill look disturbingly human.

O-Zone was certainly a departure from Theroux's typical writing style. Just a thought...

The lady I bought it from bought it at a book convention and this was the story she was told. In fact she said she WAS told the authors full name but couldnt remember it. Unless there's provenance - some kind of proof - these types of stories are nothing more than hearsay but I still like them. As long as when you pass the story on you SAY it's a story

I haven't read a lot of his work, but he's done a lot of travel (non-fiction) books. His fiction seems to center around ordinary people in unusual situations. Nothing horror-related or supernatural in the majority of what he's written.

You can find more information here (http://www.paultheroux.com/index.html).

Hm, interesting! That's the first I've seen. In what way is it different from the actual paperback?

jhanic
07-02-2011, 01:21 PM
It's a bit larger than the "regular" mass market paperback from the UK. It's listed as the B format paperback, if that means anything to you. (The copyright page lists a different ISBN for the A format paperback.) Of course, it also contains the "extra" story, Under the Weather.

John

Okay, thanks, I was just wondering. I have a copy of the UK paperback edition with the additional story and I noticed that this ARC looks exactly the same, there doesn't seem to be any text on the cover indicating that it's not the regular paperback but an ARC. Regardless, a nice addition to your collection.

jhanic
07-02-2011, 01:57 PM
This isn't an ARC/proof but is an advance review copy, which means it was sent out in advance of the regular trade editions. Other than the letter, it is identical to all the others.

The B format release is the standard release, most if not all publishers here switched over to only doing B format books a few years ago. You generally can't walk into a bookstore and find any A paperbacks now, they've all been reprinted in the larger format, with a few exceptions.

I don't know why they would do a print run of A books because they don't sell them to the general public. This release ties in with their reissue of all Kings books, they've divided them up into genres and given each the same cover lettering but changed the spine, so for books marked as epic the spines are grey and books marked as suspense are light blue etc.

Now I don't know how they decided which label to attach to which book, apparently Insomnia falls into the epic category. I've got five of them so far and I'm planning on getting the whole lot. I figure if this relaunch stays in print for the next two or three years then this could very well be the last time that Hodder reissues the complete set of King books in paper, because by 2014 or whenever would it still be profitable to reissue old King books in paper when more and more are reading ebooks?. I could see them only bringing out new titles on paper in a few years time.

My signed Cujo proof needed a home, so Dick came to the rescue with this slipcase. Those are real dog bites all around the outside (I believe bacon grease was the secret ingredient to get the bite marks where desired) and claw marks through the middle.
