finally got around to getting this one framed. the framer suggested a simple frame with a high contrast matting. if I were to do it again, I think I might go for a more ornate frame, but I'm still happy with it. this is the original cover painting for the Viking edition of DIFFERENT SEASONS.

$82 is a great price. I paid a lot more with €135 incl. shipping, but it came in almost on releasedate.
None of them were 1st printings. Bit strange is that book 5-6-7 has the same ISBN as the original Scribner trade paperbacks from 10 years ago.

Looking forward to more information on that, Ari!
I was always wondering why the text on the spine of my Spanish paperbacks were pointed one way, except for DT6 which was pointing the other way. And my hardcovers are pointing the same way as the DT6 paperback, except for the DT6 hardcover which is pointing the same way as the paperbacks. Confusing!

Very nice. Why is the block smaller than the original Centipede edition?

Randall Flagg
12-13-2016, 03:19 PM
For reasons unknown (possibly price) Stu's binder trimmed the page blocks and cropped the art. The book looks perfectly wonderful by itself, but when placed next to the custom one that David and I had done, it looks a bit small.

Last weekend I was able to attend a small event where Argentinean artist Santiago Caruso was present signing books, selling prints and doing small remarques. For those that don't know him, he worked with a couple of US publishers such as Dark Regions, Centipede Press (he'll illustrate the upcoming edition of The Yellow King (Chambers)). I really admire a lot his talent and artwork and encourage everyone to see for yourself here:

http://santiagocaruso.com.ar/art/

Anyway, I was able to attend a small event on Saturday where I got a couple of books he illustrated, a print and he did a small remarque on a very nice copy of Clive Barker's Books of Blood I have for which he did the cover artwork:

https://scontent.fgru3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/15625983_10211944549113802_547523963316150099_o.jp g?oh=c9162e9f6988e6c4b0d089dea4ce9961&oe=58F33931

The remarque is related to the cover artwork of the book:

https://scontent.fgru3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15542391_10211944988764793_2842179643336242242_n.j pg?oh=8e7025a22a36d75e6cc18dad8b5c4f52&oe=58F34D95

Cover artwork:

Two days before the event, I received the following:

https://scontent.fgru3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/15541053_10211945101207604_5691019908641869770_o.j pg?oh=22e6e54b2dc7606f5252c828b756178d&oe=58B23FEA

I can't thank Ralph enough for the items and the gift! A true gentleman!

The Colorado Kid has a nice remarque. I already have Chadbourne's version remarqued so I'm missing a JK Potter's remarqued one and remarqued set is completed. :)

https://scontent.fgru3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15492515_10211945211810369_7766443217693360315_n.j pg?oh=9e459c1974361e6f365da643b3b33e1c&oe=58B1A3BA

Stroppy should start a service and post pictures for those of us that dont know what we are doing.

I just received what could be my last signed SK book for 2016 A paperback christine dated 1987! A christmas gift from LOT GUY.

This was a gift from LOT GUY! And it is awesome. I just recently realized that i am collecting signed SK paperbacks and proofs. I would acquire them on different occasions and just now realized they are adding up!

Thank You MATT for the awesome gift and good luck charm. Which is way too cool.

Which reminds me, MATT we have to get our annual surprise out to all your Fan Club members. As president i was remiss in getting this years membership present out before XMAS. So all you members of the mffc be waiting for something in early 2017.

As President- Thanks again for all your support!

Well it has been a long time coming - but I was able to round out he collection over the past few months. Here are a few new ones that are all P&J's:

I have to thank Antoni for this first item:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/King/gUef8nfLRbe1otrFkfNJA_thumb_43ea_zps7nrh5awo.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/King/gUef8nfLRbe1otrFkfNJA_thumb_43ea_zps7nrh5awo.jpg.h tml)

And I was especially happy when I was able to find this on eBay a few weeks ago - not quite matching my #78 COTW - but probably as close as I can get:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/King/0YiavsFHT5GWzjWS575Zw_thumb_4415_zpszdcegdjy.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/King/0YiavsFHT5GWzjWS575Zw_thumb_4415_zpszdcegdjy.jpg.h tml)

And I finally pulled the trigger on one I have wanted for awhile:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/King/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_43f1_zpshb6helsf.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/King/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_43f1_zpshb6helsf.jpg.html)

Well there is still one more to post - but I am waiting for the rest of the books to arrive - so that one should be somewhere near the end of January

My New Pride and Joy thanks to Tim. It's amazing how much detail and color Maitz can put on such a small surface.

Yeah, the color and detail on that particular piece is pretty incredible. Very unique in that Don's vision for DANNY SHINES changed fairly significantly from Prelim to finished piece....

I like the pre-lim more than the final - Although I am a but biased lol
I dropped it off at the framer last night and he was blown away by it. I'm super excited to see what they come up with. The guy I use used to have a custom framing shop and art gallery in PA so I just left it up to him to make the right choice for it.

I kind of agree. I think in the prelim Danny looks more like he is from the 70's. It also seems a bit darker, yet the "Shine" seems shinier. Both are great pictures though, and I do like the more rendered look of the finished product too.

I am still PASSIONATE (maybe moreso) about collecting personally today as when I started many many moons ago...This is the BEST job I've ever had! And yes, it is TOUGH to let some things go by....I wished I'd have bought and not sold the Lettered Danse Macabre (only 15 done) that came my way a few years ago and many other things, but to be sure, I have nabbed many items to claim as my own...too many actually. Still have plans to complete my personal inventory and my guess is I will sell up to 100 items that I believe I just don't need to own. Looking at too many expenses coming my way, biggest is daughter headed to college in 2 years. Yes, I put a slug of $$ away for her as I did for my two boys, but college is just prohibitively expensive these days and it is never enough in savings....let alone all the $$/upgrades my wife has insisted on. Ay yi yi!

Agree with OneFathom....still elusive numbered #296 Dameron Waste Lands portfolio....am NOT interested in say owning other Grant #296 like Christine, Desperation, Talisman, Black House etc....does nothing for me with those numbers...I'm a Dark Tower guy forever.

The 15 lettered editions were for private distribution by Stephen King. Of the less than 15 he gave away (I presume he kept one for himself), only ~ 5 have ever made it into the public's hands.

Bob had/has 2 copies (at least). One copy was sold (or made available for sale) around 4-6 years ago. The tissue was not original and there was something else (very trivial) that caused it to be less than F/F. There was also the copy on ABE that David alluded to above. I don't know who bought CC's copy (probably Bob) but that's another copy in collector's hands. So there are a few out there. But like it's been mentioned (Alan, RF and Kris), those copies are VERY hard to find.

Mostly hobby, with an slightest eye to investment. I don't really plan on selling ever, but I do like to know the value of a book and when I am getting a good deal. Also you never know when a desperate situation may call for desperate measures.

I think it's a hobby but with any hobby there is a serious financial aspect. I think most of us know we can't take it with us so we will either pass it down or pass it along. If we need to pass it along it would be nice if the hobby paid for itself eventually.

Plus in collecting, I think it's common practice to buy hobby pieces as investments so you can sell or trade them to pick up new pieces for your hobby.

When I was small, my dad always told be about the horror movies he had seen in the cinema and two names always popped up: Karloff and Frankenstein.
Fortunately, his influence stuck and to this day I love watching the old Universal horror movies - especially the Frankenstein trilogy. Bride still is one of the best horror movies ever.
Or maybe, one of the best comedies ever...
Anyways: yesterday one of the best frankenstein busts ever arrived, painted by Steven Parke. If that name doesn't mean anything to you, google him.
It didn't come cheap, but I just love this bust.

Aron is right. If you do not think of the money at all... it would be tough to "grow" your collection/hobby. It is how many here do it:)

Side note/flip side, my avatar is my passion too. That Bike is a beast and I have near $50000CAD into it. It is a RUSH to drive and there is NO way I will get near what I paid for it.. and I don't care. SO... you can have those feelings for sure as well. If your ok with it as I am in this case, then who gives a shit? DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY:)

So..I need to ask...do most people collect as an investment or just as a hobby? I do it as a hobby and not really interested in value...

I collect what I like but still, you don't want to get burned on what you pay. Always best to do your homework before major purchases.

Sweet bust. I do an annual viewing of the classic Universal horror movies every October.

Absolutely fantastic. To be honest I'm not much for busts and action figures/statuettes, but man does that Frankenstein bust make me jealous.

Thanks, guys. All credit goes to the artist who painted it, Steven Parke.
I could have bought the bust unpainted and paint it myself, but there's no way I would even consider going for this option.
Don't think I'll ever come across a more impressive version of my #1 movie monster.

That price is more than extortionate.

Congrats on another piece of the puzzle _PCC_.

I added one of my all time holy grails to my collection. For me this is the definitive copy of Frankenstein, no artist can or will do it better.

Cross posting from the bookcases thread as this is my favorite acquisition in a while! Not so much a book, but I finally got new bookcases and like the way it all turned out. Feels good to have room to expand!
