I read Black House first, and while there were a couple of references I didn't get, I still greatly enjoyed it. Read Talisman afterwards, but didn't enjoy it half as much as BH.

Heather, (if you haven't) definitely read The Talisman first. It's not reall necessary but you'll have a greater appreciation for Black House and the overall character arcs. Plus, Black House will spoil some things that happened in The Talisman if you haven't read it.
A NEW GAME BEGINS
BH is a much darker book, but can definitely be read before or after Talisman. All you really need to know is that Talisman is out there and the general premise. BH is one of my top 5 King books for some reason. You get a little of almost everything in it.

I hear ya, Heather. As I recall, and I've read it three times, it takes 75-100 pages for the book to really grab ya. If you can hang in there though it's a great ride.
