I've seen the first letter before and it's still awesome. The second one I hadn't seen before now. Is the second one some type of telegram/western union/faxed message? Do you know? Thank you for sharing.

It is a carbon copy of the telegram message Thompson sent to King with the good news about Carrie. As the story goes the King's had discontinued their telephone service to save money. A telegram was the fastest way to get the good news to King. I suspect that Thompson typed out the message, put the carbon copy in King's file at Doubleday, and sent the original to Western Union to generate the actual telegram. The actual telegram would have, of course, been delivered to King.

Didn't you know? Bob started life as the Janitor for Double Day.....
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

It never ceases to amaze how many one-of-a-kind obscure things you have.

Do you have Scream Quietly? King wrote an introduction for it. I'm guessing you do but I couldn't spot it anywhere on your shelves.

King wrote the foreward for it. I'm not sure if it's been published elsewhere before. There are two states: trade and signed, although not by King. PS sometimes keep proofs and ARCs and then sell them off for cheap. Maybe drop them a line?

edit: PS descriptions always throw me for a loop. Description says "signed sc". My automatic response is that it's a signed softcover. sc is actually is slipcase(d).

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of this one. I will look into it and probably get a copy.

I've got a lettered copy and a numbered copy. Didn't have room to display both so one is in a box in a closet.
