    Default 2012 Oscar contest

It's that time of year again, folks. Oscar season is upon. I know, so soon? This is the third year (I think) I'm running the Oscar contest. We always have a lot of fun predicting the winners and seeing who comes out on top. It's just for fun.

I thought this was a great year for film. Unfortunately, some of my favorite and most well reviewed films aren't "Oscar worthy" films so they didn't get nominated. I'm thinking about Rise of Planet of the Apes and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, to name a few. A few other films that I loved that are "Oscar worthy" didn't get enough attention for whatever the reason. I'm thinking about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Warrior.

Heather is the reining back-to-back champion. We gotta take her down this year.

Predictions have to be in by showtime, so there is no rush to post them. We still have a few weeks until Oscar night. I myself will be waiting for the last possible moment to post my predictions. I still have films to watch, buzz to follow and articles to read.

Remember, these are just educated guesses. None of us have seen every film nominated and I doubt if anybody has seen any of the documentary short subject nominees. Just make an educated guess. Or an uneducated guess. Hell, you can have your pet monkey put its finger on the film he or she thinks is going to win, I don't care. As long as you have made a guess for every category. By the way, if you have pet monkey, kudos to you.

I would also ask for this thread to remain by itself until after Oscar night. Then it would be fine to merge it with the other Oscar thread. I just think it's best to keep this separate for now. Thanks.

I think it's time for me to usurp the throne. I will be watching just about every movie with a nomination this year and if I have time will each watch the documentary shorts. I've only been able to find 1 of the 5 foreign film nominees which sucks but it's the one that sounds like the most I'd like.

I was just going to ask. I couldn't remember what the deadline was last year. I haven't seen any of the nominees this year and have been holding off on films that look "Oscary" until the Best Picture Showcase. I can't wait.

I loved Moneyball. I would be happy if it won. Although as baseball fans, we know that the film is a little misleading. The movie wants the viewer to believe that Billy Beane takes a rag-tag group of misfit toys and turns them into World Series contenders.

In reality, the bread and butter of those A's teams was their pitching led by Mulder, Hudson, Zito. Also, Miguel Tejada won the MVP and Eric Chavez hit 30 homers. None of these players were featured in the film.

    Anyway, still a great film.

I also want to mention that, for the people who already posted their predictions, you can always go back and change it if you want.

I think the point they tried to make with the film was that every player had their spot to play according to how it was worked out. Pena on 1st ruined it all, which is why Hattenburg was so featured. Not to mention it's more compelling, I think, to focus on the players that were never given a shot and got to play along future stars and I liked how they handled Justice. The movie to me was more about re-discovering the joy of the game without worrying about money or success; just winning. The joy of winning and the agony of defeat as sports should be, not about the money and the face and being a 'complete package' which meant more for PR oppourtunities than baseball.
