If you manage to get a valuable copy of any of his books, I highly recommend a "Dolso" case for it. They really pop a and the wooden case goes very well wit, Tolkien. I have one for my LOTR and one for my "The Hobbit" outstanding cases!!!

Tolkien and The Hobbit were my first love when it came to literature. I read it first in grade 5, and read it several times since. I read The Lord of the Rings for the first time throughout high school. The Hobbit was also the first book I ever collected, though not specifically collectible versions, just random paperbacks with different art. I've expanded my collection a bit, but mostly have moved onto collecting other authors. Would love to get some of Tolkien's Easton Press editions as well as an early copy of The Hobbit one day.
This is the first copy of The Hobbit I had read, I'd borrowed it from the library in Grade 5, and years later bought it from them for $0.50, the art still captivates me. Would love to have a nice edition of this one.
My first copies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings:
A cool version of the Silmarillion with an exrcept read by Christopher Tolkien and a Map:
Same set for The Hobbit, but with a collection of postcards of Tolkien's art:
The paperback collection (and one hard cover), gathered throughout the years. Often of vacations abroad, as a keepsake, like the German one, or sometimes just cause I wanted a book to read and The Hobbit can be found anywhere. Some I just bought because I liked the cover too.
This one that everyone has:
I've seen different versions, some seem to have more or less art, and may or may not have the marbled papers. I dunno...
And a first edition Silmarillion that I grabbed for $2 at a book sale:
It has a publication date of 1977, has two print errors; one on p.330 and one on p.352. Don't recall the where the errors are specifically, though I obviously knew when I took this picture.

Don't forget the Double LP Complete soundtrack with Dialogue, Music & Songs with 16 page Special Edition Book.
Ralph Bakshi's 1978 The Lord of the Rings 16 page program booklet. U.S.A.
Ralph Bakshi's 1978 The Lord f the Rings 24 page program booklet JAPAN.
UNWIN PAPERBACKS 1978 MOVIE TIE-IN U.K. (ALL 3 BOOKS IN ONE VOLUME 1,077 PAGES)
I also love the Bakshi film. Though it doesn't quite hold the same place in my heart as the Rankin & Bass productions, or his later collaboration with Frank Frazetta; Fire & Ice, it's still a fantastic flick and imaginative rendition of Tolkien's work. The soundtrack is great too, snagged the DLP for cheap at a record sale and love to spin it every now and again. Hope it wasn't supposed to come with a book, like the beautiful edition of The Hobbit DLP.
You can always but one with it.
or if you would just like to color along with the music.
