S\L stands for Signed Limited. It refers to a book that has been signed by the author as part of a limited edition produced by the publisher. In most cases this edition will differ in some way to the Trade edition (different dust jacket, better quality paper, slipcased, etc). In most cases it will also be numbered x of y

Sorry, I honestly thought I had posted it in my collection. Seems that's not the case. It WAS posted in the Paris Signing thread, but here it is again for anyone else interested. As we are on the classified's thread I'll repeat what I said to Amber. The only way this is leaving my collection is for a similar condition 1st/1st. This can be a trade or I'll take $700 for mine which I gauge to be the price I would have to pay for the 1st/1st (inc shipping).

I am the member who has just bought The GE of 'salem's Lot from Andrea. I obviously have not received the book yet (but will post again on it's arrival) but I would like to say that Andrea has been accommodating both on price as well as paypal and shipping options. She is very communicative and friendly through email. The price I have paid for the book is considerably less than a similar volume being offered here by another member as well as being close to other recent ebay auctions. I will reserve final feedback till the book is in my hands, but so far I am more than happy with the transaction.

A 'tipped in' plate is usually a set of separate pages that are sent to the Author for signing. The pages are then individually glued into the final book. This is more cost effective than sending hundreds of books to the Author.
If the signature is a 'facsimile' then the publisher will have (with permission from the author) made copies of an original signature. These are printed and tipped in as above.

Although authentic (as in it is a true representation of the Authors signature) most collectors hold no value for such signatures, in fact many feel they devalue a collectible edition.

Hodder & Stoughton in the UK published some gift editions using this method a while ago and the new Collectors editions from PS publishing have had facsimile signatures as well.

Oh and Amber, this may sound like I am cutting my own throat on a sale here, but I would recommend that if you don't have a copy of the Grant Talisman/Blackhouse set you should purchase that instead. Grant books still have numbered copies of this with a signature by Peter Straub and artist Rick Berry (NOT by SK). I don't know why this edition does not sell out like the other SK Gift sets because it is a truly beautiful slipcased set. You should definitely think about owning this first. (details of the book can be found on the GrantBooks (https://secure.grantbooks.com/z-sk-dt-7.html) website and is still available for $150)

The set I have for sale is a nice one (and is more 'rare' due to the limited slipcases made) plus the additional art print by Tomislav is fantastic, but I see this set as going to a Talisman/BH fan or completist collector. I asked Brian Freeman at Cemetery Dance about these awhile ago. They sometimes sell them off to collectors through the CD Collector's Club; there have been a few on eBay for awhile ... the one for IT jumps to mind. When the s/l Cujo came out, I was buying most of my books from a dealer in the Chicago area, mainly by mail. I had to go to Chicago on business, so I paid a visit to this dealer. He had a number of Cujo s/l volumes and he said they were not selling, so he'd sell me a few at $60 each. I couldn't see the need to buy more than one, though, so that's what I did. I sure wish I could also go back in time.

The story being commissionned specifically for this book.

Further to my post in "The Ebay BS Game" thread, I'm open to offers on my IT dustjacket. It is inscribed and signed "For Branden\ Best\ Stephen King". Probably too much to hope that there are a dozen or so members here all called Branden!

Jacket has a fold down the spine where it has previously been kept framed; I have since re-framed it and folded it where the jacket naturally folds, but the crease remains. This signature and inscription has been authenticated by Dave Hutcheson of Hutch's Rare Books (his email can be provided on request), and people in the Ebay BS thread have also verified it. I have it listed on Ebay here (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251463948257?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649), but that price is based on a copy of the novel I saw on the "sold items" on Ebay a while ago and I know the jacket alone isn't worth that much. So - open to offers. I'm a keen SK collector, so money raised from it will go towards adding some of his earlier stuff to my beloved shelves. :-)

And I checked the page for Danse Macabre...I think I have the copy in your photo! There's a mark on the spine by the Everest House logo and I can't believe my copy has the same mark by coincidence!
