I found a PC S/L of LSOS. I'd buy it if it entitled me to a PC of WTTKH but that is too much to ask for I fear

No way they are going to deny the owners of LSOE #801 -1250 a copy of TWTTKH, but give one to a guy with a PC copy.

I wouldn't be quite that unequivocal, but I doubt it...I mean, Grant shouldn't give PC books out, but that doesn't mean they won't...there'd be some bitterness from it, I'm sure.

On another note, this is all months away....I'm not sure what the real demand is going to be. But, I was surprised about the 11/22/63 s/l prices.

Hi team.
I might have a chance to pick up a UK 1st/1st 'Salem's Lot, and was wondwering if anyone would be keen on purchasing it?

All I know about it's condition so far is that it is not price clipped, has some page discolourisation on copyright page and has a small tear in the dustjacket on the front (maybe 1cm top left near spine).

If anyone is keen, PM me and I'll see if I can lay my hands on it. It is for sale by a local seller.

Cheers

Hi there! I have already posted my collection in the collection thread, but wanted to put it here, too, so everyone knows that I need to sell...Christmas is coming, and I have expectant children! I don't have a big collection, and nothing compared to what I've seen posted here, but thanks for taking the time to look :)

The bizarre fused book. I guess some enterprising soul grabbed this from the publisher before it could be cut? I don't know... No one seems to know what it is.

Sadly in order for second borns, etc. to become first borns there has to be total elimination of first borns. One example of this would be say I traded my nonexistent first born for a nifty new SK collectible and then my First born were sacrificed to/for whatever. In this instance my nonexistent second born becomes my nonexistent first born and thus eligible for trade for the next nifty new collectible. This goes on ad infinitum.Unfortunately there's never really been much of a market for second borns though. This could be a new niche. There is opportunity here.

Well, in her defense, in the appraisal thread she asked for value estimates b/c she didn't know. She didn't receive any responses and she still doesn't know (admitted in her post) so she took a guess here in this thread. I was kindof hoping someone would help her out. (I know nothing at all about proofs and drawings, so I'm no help on that end.)

...yeah getting no responses had nothing to do with her being new or receiving money; that was about pricing. Yes, the prices are too high, but that's why she said to PM her for offers ...I would gladly help out, but pricing ARCs, etc. for me is like reading Korean :)

Shannon
12-09-2011, 10:17 PM
I don't think the prices are that high. It comes out to about $100 per proof/ARC. I don't know how the comic book process works, if they are just pencil sketches not used in the actual comic book, then the prices are a little high I would think. But if they were "comic-used" then I think they are a decent starting amount. And if I saw the fused book at a garage sale for $10, I think I would buy it. Online, it's a little harder, because $10 becomes $15 due to shipping. :)

As far as sending an unknown person a lot of money, I would do mulitple transactions. That way, the most I'd lose is $100.

Brice
12-09-2011, 10:27 PM
I'm clueless about that stuff myself. If I had money I'd at best pay twenty or thirty for the double book, but I tend to like weird quirky items.

I think I spent about thirty for my special reading copy of DTII a year or two back. I don't really keep records of what i buy stuff for though. The others should be higher I think, but I don't know how much.

These are the actual pages Jae Lee drew and then were painted by Richard Isanove so definately used in the actual production of the comic.

I don't know for sure but the price was probably 350.00 - 400.00 originaly from Albert Moy, they have not sold on Ebay for 250.00 - 400.00 the listed starting bid in several auctions in the last month, being lesser pages I would guess that the would sell currently for about 200.00 each.

Wow. Of everyone I've met here, you're the only one who has made me feel ignorant, ashamed of my ignorance, and unwelcome.

Thank you so much, everyone who reiterated that I did, indeed, try to get my items appraised in the proper forum before dragging them out here and flinging crazy numbers at them. Yes, the Jae Lee pieces are comic-used, and no, they aren't selling very well on eBay. Now that I have a ballpark figure for their worth (thank you, thank you), I hope that changes!

As far as sending a random stranger $700, this is probably my ignorance speaking again, but I just assumed any deals made here would be consummated on eBay, where I AM known, and where I have tons of feedback to prove that I do, in fact, own and ship what I sell (please see eBay ID link in profile...I think I did that part right).

Oy, if these were the original sketches that were then painted over, wouldn't they be in color? Or maybe comic book artists use some kind of carbon copy sheet when they draw? And I see where you're going with the pricing, and I've bought SK artwork but not comic book art before, but $200 seems really low for something "comic-used", no? If that's what they were worth, I would still put up a larger price and keep my fingers crossed.

Deb, don't feel too offended by Randall Flagg's post. He's like that sometimes. But (shocker, I know, lol) he's a good guy. Blunt, opinionated, and he smells, but a good guy. And he looks out for the people in the group by making sure tell them to be careful when making money transcations with people they don't know. In the end, it's all good. For every Randall Flagg, there's a Shannon. :)

Brice

Oy or Wiz would be the people I'd have asked re the comic sheets.

...and no shannon, they wouldn't be in color. Quite a lot of these were sold early on in the comic's history.

Found it on Wikipedia. "The inker usually works directly over the penciller's pencil marks, though occasionally pages are inked on translucent paper, such as drafting vellum, preserving the original pencils."

So, with THAT being said, technically the comic book pages AREN'T "comic-used" but more of a study, if they were painted over, right?

Brice
12-10-2011, 07:15 AM
I honestly don't know. I thought they were colored and then used. Most anyone could tell you more than me about comics. I just have a small box full of them.

Nope. Comics work this way: sketch/study, (original) pencils, inking, colouring, lettering.

What you see here are the original pencils before they were inked. Study is something the artist submits to the author for approval or to get a feel for the characters. Think of THESE pencils as the final manuscript that King submits to the publisher. The publisher will adjust the font, layout, add illustrations etc but it's King's final manuscript it's all about. I'd say these original pencils are the equivalent of having a signed copy of the final manuscript. So yes, these were used in a comic, with added inks, colour and lettering but they're not just a study.

Shannon
12-10-2011, 07:42 AM
I get that. But unless there is some kind of "layer" that goes over the penciling "layer", or maybe if the pencils were scanned into a computer and then printed out for the inker, if the inker inked/colored onto these pages, they would be in ink/color. I think I'm missing something, lol

Brice

I'm not an expert on comic book production but most all original comic book art is in black and white. Whether it is original comic book pages or originals that were used for Sunday newspaper comic strip sections, the original artist work is in pencil or pen. Other art specialists add color and lettering. Here is a link to Albert Moy's website. He specializes in this stuff. As you can see most is in pencil or black ink. I suspect that Albert Moy was the original seller of the artwork DungeonDeb is selling.

Richard Isanove does his inking digitally. Jae's pencils are scanned and sent to Isanove, who turns them into a layer in photoshop. Isanove colors the pencils to integrate them into the artwork, but all of his work is in Photoshop. Therefore, all of Jae's original pencils should exist as unadulterated artwork. I spoke to Isanove at length about his process recently for a forthcoming project.

Back at the TDT gathering in Vegas (in late 2008 ), a group of us met Jae Lee and his dealer, Albert Moy, in person. We got to see some of these original pages in person - examples that Jae brought with him, as well as the personal collections of Dave (oy-the-brave) and David (wizardsrainbow). If you appreciate Jae's syle of art as seen in the comic books, these originals are even better.

Shannon,
How's it going on the "upcoming" soon to be released super collection?

Shannon
12-10-2011, 12:34 PM
Not a super collection, but a lot of great items. It's going good. Slow, but good. I'm just a little worried that because there are quite a few high priced items (market value) that they won't sell. But then again, the lettered Firestarter on eBay had quite a few bidders, so maybe I shouldn't worry too much.

Yes, the Jae Lee pieces are comic-used, and no, they aren't selling very well on eBay. Now that I have a ballpark figure for their worth (thank you, thank you), I hope that changes!
Deb[/QUOTE]

BTW the price I estimated (200.00 per page) is based on what I have seen similar pages go for on Ebay. I have seen many sellers think they were going to sell pages for a profit unfortunately that has not been the case most have gone (if they sold at all) for between 30% - 50% less than they originaly sold for from Albert Moy. Believe me it pains me to say this as I have about 50 pages.

Honestly, I'm so disappointed in Simmons as a human being that I'll take almost anything. PM me a list and I'm sure we'll work out a deal. I'm a huge fan of Lebbon, Mieville is pretty good too, Gaiman, Joe Hill, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Alan Moore (looking for hardcovers and 'absolute' editions I don't have,) Keene, Steve Vernon, John Urbancik and I'm always interested in affordable signed paperbacks like BMB does (your fav. publisher, I know)..

If there is a polar opposite of my beliefs, he's right there. Except he's loud, arrogant and obnoxious about them. I must be masochistic though, because I read his forums on the regular where he's surrounded by his minions/yesmen and I can't help but to shake my head in disbelief. Xenophobia and racism are only the tip of the iceberg.

You know now that I think about it, Simmons and BMB have a lot in common. Loud mouthed, obnoxious etc etc. I wonder if that hurts sales for either of them. I think it does for BMB seeing as how they can't seem to move much merchandise anymore. Personally I've directed at least a hundred or so fellow collectors away from them. I have a collection of posts I like to show.

For me it's all about story. They can be a total son of a bitch and I'll still love the stories. I've always liked Simmons stories. I haven't read the opinions that have been mentioned, but if I did my reaction would probably be oh, rascist xenophobic asshole who is a great writer. I don't think I want to read his opinions anymore.

I try to overlook a writer's personal beliefs if I really like his writing. I think that politically Stephen King and I are about as opposite as you can be but I still enjoy reading his books. I guess I'd probably never get to see another movie if I boycotted anyone's work who believed differently than me. Very few conservatives in Hollywood.

mistercrowley
12-17-2011, 02:03 PM
The political beliefs of someone dont bother me but when they go insane like Mel Gibson it really hampers my enthusiasm for anything that they touch. If you come off like a despicable human being I can't bring myself to support you in anyway is what it comes down to.

I can deal with talented whiner/douche bags though (I'm a big sports fan)

WeDealInLead
12-17-2011, 02:09 PM
For the most part, one's politics don't bother me. Simmons seems to be over the top and as much as I like his books, I'll never buy a brand new one. I won't support him directly. Same goes for Orson Scott Card. Personal belief is one thing, but when those beliefs infringe on someone else's rights and freedom is where I draw the line.

King is a bleeding heart liberal but at least he's not talking down on anyone.

Brice
12-17-2011, 02:10 PM
I can totally respect that, but I don't feel the same. I ultimately don't really care who wrote what I'm reading.

I feel much the way carlos does. I ignore the author/performer's political beliefs or his/her personal life if I enjoy their works. This goes from music to films to books. I am a Vietnam veteran, and I still enjoy Jane Fonda's works, as I do those of Joan Baez, although both were/are very, very strongly against that conflict. Likewise, there are a number of musicians that I wouldn't invite to my house for dinner, but I still like their music.

This is a pretty good Simmons screed:

http://www.dansimmons.com/news/message/2006_04.htm

I've read quite a few Iraq-related memoirs by authors who disagree with me politically...but that's not the same thing. As for entertainers, I like David Mamet movies, even though he's to the right of Genghis Khan. I think I generally don't care, unless their art becomes their agenda.

On the other hand, I did like Ted Nugent when I was growing up, but now I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Hi team.
I have received a UK 1st/1st Salem's Lot, and am putting it up for sale.

Please note one member here has already expressed an interest in it, and if he confirms, it may already be sold.

In anticipation he may pass on it, I thought I'd pop it here for the rest of you to consider. It is in good condition, is NOT price clipped. I've put a few pictures below, but have more to send upon request.

Yeah that was me. Not only did I get it for a cheap price, but the guy literally lives in the same town as I do, so I will just pick it up and not have to pay shipping fees.

I got unbelievably lucky on this one...I think I have seen less than five of these show up on ebay in the last ten years....and I bought the last two.

In March of this year I paid $612 plus shipping for a sealed DT1 and DT2 S/L audio on ebay. I figure the DT1 was worth about $200 or less, so that puts the DT2 at about $400 or more.

Our own COLLECTIBLE CATALOG (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Drawing+of+the+Three+The+DTII+-Audio+-+S+L) states "RARELY SEEN FOR SALE"

Bett's does not have one for sale, and I can't even find one on ABE.

I dont really know the writer or his work (i started Drood), but one thing that i know, is that a french translator that was a good friend of him, started boycotting him a few years back, claiming to be disappointed by who he really was. I dont have the details but i believe it was the same reasons mentionned above.

**DISCLAIMER** I'm no expert in grading books (in fact haven't done it before) and as such the following is my opinion of the books condition. I can send what ever photos you want to check it out....

Book is in good condition. No spine lean, no pen marks/owners names etc. Jacket has one small tear on front cover, and minor rubbing at top corners.
Price is NOT clipped.

PM me with any queries, request for photos/info etc. I have posted a few pics upthread and have heaps more to send through.
From past experiance, shipping from New Zealand is about $30ish (USD) but happy to get quotes before posting.

Cheers

**EDIT** Oh I should mention I'd be open to trading this in on something of equal or lesser value (with cash to make up the differece). I have a few King items on my want list and so let me know if you may have something of interest ;-)

The book will be sent in the same package that it was sent to me in from Cemetery Dance. I have not, I repeat, have not opened the bubblewrap the book is in. I am asking $1000 shipped from my door to yours. Anywhere in the world. I will use the shipping company of YOUR choice. The book will be sent in the same package that it was sent to me in from Cemetery Dance. I have not, I repeat, have not opened the bubblewrap the book is in. All that has been opened is the box the book was shipped in to make sure the book was undamaged. I see no damage and will be happy to send pictures if they are requested.

As I said, I'm asking $1000. However, I'm not a fool, and this is the Christmas season. I saw one up on ebay eariler today for, I think, 550 initial bid with a $750 BIN. That's about what I figured they would go for, and of course much more reasonable than ^this^.

Hey guys, why complain? If he wants to put the price at two thousand dollars, that's up to him. Buy it, don't buy it, that's up to you. If you have some criticism or thoughts about his prices, why not send him a private message about it?

One of the main things we do here, is to find members the best/cheapest deals on every book we can.

Why pay out more of your hard earned money than you have to.

Neo, I apologize, I kind of lumped your post in with Garrell's post.

MRT, I agree that helping members find the best deals is a priority. At the same time, I think it's a little different when we publically critique a member's item for sale, in comparison with someone random off eBay, Abebooks, etc.

Anyone can try to sell any book at any price. Someone will buy it or they won't. Personally I wouldn't pay that much if I had it, but if Sam sells it for that good for him.

I agree with you completely RT. As you may remember from when I was active here on a regular basis, I was always looking for a good deal too. The truth of the matter is I am completely out of touch with the Stephen King market and I have no idea where IT will land. The other truth is I said I will entertain offers.

I'm not a book collector anymore. Since my wife Margaret's death in 2010, it's just lost it's flavor and hasn't returned, so I'm selling my copy of IT. I decided to sell the book several months after I purchased it.

If you don't want to pay my price, make me an offer. If you want to publicly critisize my pricing and call it dumbness, I would ask you keep your opinions to yourself of PM me. I'm not new to this and I'm not trying to gouge anyone, so what's your problem with me Garrell? And it's not over double price, it's less than that because I stated I would cover the shipping costs, which for a book can reach close to $100 depending on the service and location.

Sam

$550 at an auction....and $699 for a BIN (but it's hard to gauge if that's "real" value or not). Not as high as I expected...

Sam - I didn't think $1K was that shocking or anything. But...it's all in presentation, when you say you prefer "a cashiers check so I can save on Paypal fees," it seems a little off-putting...so maybe that's part of the 'controversey.' Who knows....it registered with me, though, in a bit of a negative way.

But, I have no problem with the price, or asking it...I'm very surprised those two other auctions went as cheap as they did (although the BIN doesn't prove much).

EDIT: Duh - the $550 auction is still ongoing, so I'm sure it will go for much more. I think that $750-$900 is a legit range....and $1K, while high, is not an outlying price.

Agree, I don't think Sams price is completely outrageous. This book has an incredible following. With that said:

Will IT reach The Stand S/L stardom? Remains to be seen but the circles I'm a part of that didn't get one, and now want one.....well, we all could be surprised.

Number 250 rolled in the door last night and is all nestled safely in room 217. Matching numbered portfolio to follow.

Rahfa,

Yeah, I can see where that can feel negative. I'm not trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes, and most of the older members know I've always been straight about my deals, even those that fell through. I also know some are leary when a seller asks for a cashier's check, so I said exactly why I preferred that method. Either way, I am perfectly fine to accept Paypal too.

I had one on ebay about two weeks ago, and it went unsold with an opening bid of $750. After the auction ended, I sold it privately for $715 cash shipped (no ebay or Paypal fees).

Now that books are actually in people's hands, prices may go a bit higher.

I really don't see this one going much higher than this. A print run of 750 means all of the hardcore collectors got one. And a price of $750 is going to keep most of the mid-range and newbie collectors away.

There is one on "open auction" now...current price $635 with one day to go.

Merry Christmas ladies and gents.

Book below is still up for grabs. Will consider reasonable offers or trades.

Just to confirm, the UK 1st/1st 'Salem's Lot is offically available for purchase.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/jimimck/Stephen%20King%20Books/SLFront.jpg

I plan on letting everyone know well in advance the exact time the Unveiling will begin. Each item will have an item number (Item 1 will be 001, item 2 will be 002, etc). After the item is "unveiled" (this thing is going to take multiple posts), whoever emails me first with their want list (including the correct item number) gets dibs. I will attempt to price everything at current market value. Some of the items for sale I haven't seen too often (if ever) in the year I have been collecting, so those will be a little harder to figure out. But no worries, everything will have a price come U-Day!

It's very odd, as I go through this collection, I'll find a book or item that is in mint condition. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Then I'll keep going and find a book that has all its dustjacket edges bumped and worn/torn, rubbing to the cover, etc. It's pretty much hit or miss.

Like, I have a mint SIGNED AND INSCRIBED, FIRST EDITION ______, but on the other hand I have a heavily damaged UK FIRST EDITION ______. I have a still (or, it was) in the plastic SIGNED LIMITED ______________, but I have a US FIRST EDITION ___________ with tears to all six dust jacket corners and a small sticker on the inside rear cover.

Ugh! But no worries, every litte teeny tiny thing I see wrong with the items, I am taking a picture of it. And come U-Day I will show it all off as if I requested the pictures myself.

I have a few King items on my want list and so let me know if you may have something of interest ;-)[/QUOTE]

What was I doing wrong or not doing right? Ta in advance.
First off you gave the URL's for the thumbnails listed-so even if they showed it would be a small picture.
The forum uses BB code so one way to insert an image in a post is to manually enter the code before and after the URL. Simply put before each URL and after-no spaces.
The other way you could have done it was to right click on the image, choose "copy image location", then go to your post and use the "insert image" icon and paste the URL in the pop-up box.

Isn't that during NFL playoffs... WTF? :)

TWO UNVEILING ANNOUNCEMENTS

1) Sunday. January 15th, 2012. That is when we will begin.

2) I will be allowing payments. Up to four months, evenly spread out. You can reserve the item you want, and pay 25% of the total worth each month over four months. Once you are done paying, you will get your item. Once you start payments though, if you change your mind, you will not be getting your money back. So, be sure you want me to take an item off the shelf before you tell me so.

Cheryl was the one who sold me Sharon's Skeleton Crew Treasure Chest and started me on my journey to King Collecting. :) After a while I stopped dealing with Cheryl and started talking directly to Sharon, who I became friends with. She's a complete-ist, like me. :) I would buy her entire collection if I could. But I can't. So I figured, I would offer it to my friends here and see what happens. But, with the exception of a Carrie ARC (which seems to have been lost somewhere, lol), The Unveiling will be her entire collection.

EDIT: I must stress again, this is not a Supercollection, but the lifetime collection of an above-average collector.

After some interest shown, the necessary evil of shipping has reared it's head. Cost for shipping from England to the US via Royal Mail varies between approx £110/$170 with £100 insurance, tracked to £215/$330 with £2500 insurance, tracked. This is expensive I know but the books weigh in at 12kg plus. I am prepared to split shipping costs.
