For a two book set (not series)...
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory AND James and the Giant Peach.
Pretty much any two books by Michael Chrichton, Chuck Palahniuk or Margaret Atwood.

Oh man, Suntup editions of Jurassic Park, Congo, or Sphere would be AMAZING!

The Handmaid's Tale would be cool, i spotted this in the last FB live feed.
Now it could be anything but it looks like a red robe to me, or perhaps it's just a bag. 🙃

Neil Gaiman's American Gods & Anansi Boys.

Folio Society recently did both:

https://www.foliosociety.com/usa/american-gods.html
https://www.foliosociety.com/usa/anansi-boys.html

...which, I think, decreases the odds of Suntup editions (sorry to piss on the parade :frown:).And Hill House did both of course.

But Paul WOULD have a blast doing both I'm sure.

After the Hill House limited editions (and the others), I would hope Paul would negotiate for some other worthy books by the prolific Neil Gaiman. Just not another Ocean at the End of the Lane nor The Graveyard Book, please.

Pretty much any two books by Michael Chrichton, Chuck Palahniuk or Margaret Atwood.

Chuck would be nice, my personal favorites are Diary, Lullaby, Fight Club... haven’t read Survivor yet.

Man. Crichton was one hell of a storyteller. Though not his best book, the opening scene of Airframe - for me - is unforgettable.

Same can be said of the entering of the ship in Sphere. Or the approach in the helicopter.

First off, Simon that was supposed to be a secret! This cracked me up.

Paul may want to consider doing future videos in front of a green screen.

And secondly, no doubt! I better be very careful what I leave in the frame when I do those broadcasts. BTW, that red article of clothing is in fact a Mister Rogers sweater (https://www.alpacaunlimited.com/mister-rogers-sweater-collection). The reason it's on the desk is because I have not figured out how to wash it. The instructions are a little complicated for my simple undomesticated brain. Something about hand washing and not tumble drying! Um, okay. Not sure I have time to hand wash my clothes in between making books. And no tumble drying!? Wait, I do remember as a child we had a clothes line with wooden pegs. I wonder if I could buy one of those. So anyway, it has been sitting there for some time, but I'd really like to wear it.

You have to fill up your sink with water and some Woolite. Then you let that sweater take a bath and swirl it around. Rinse. Then lay flat to dry. Towels will work on top of your dryer or you can buy a drying rack. There ya go.

Or just take it to your dry cleaners.

Oh no Paul is messing with my retirement!!! In all seriousness I like the changes especially the limit of one per person/household even though there are ways around that. I'm excited for the upcoming releases even if my wallet isn't.

I also really like the one copy per household rule. It’s a great way to ensure that the extra copies will go into the hands of individual collectors, direct from the publisher.

MikeDuke
07-01-2020, 08:30 AM
Yea, there were at least two books that allowed people to buy more then one copy. I know people might want two so one could be a gift, but the limit of one means more people will have
a chance, like you say Peter.

I was happy to get my first 2 books from Suntup that I ordered directly from Suntup. But they both arrived with some problems. Let me know if I'm being too nitpicky because that could be the case as well

Here's pics of Brother:

https://i.imgur.com/pHgNMbA.jpg

Pics of dinged I Am Legend slipcase:

https://i.imgur.com/aPwe5jo.jpg

Not if the shipping box was the problem or the books were like this anyway.

https://i.imgur.com/trGXzZ3.jpg

The box looks like it got smashed in somewhat. I was expecting the box with the foam fitted padding like others have got. I don't know if that's reserved for certain orders or not. Did anyone else have this issue with Brother?

It's hard to tell how deep those creases are on Brother but I'll say that mine looks very similar. I think it's a natural consequence of having the rounded headband - the pages are somewhat "pinched" in on the first and last signatures (the section of folded pages).

The line of what is "nitpicky" and not varies pretty widely by collector, and I'll say that I'm on the nitpickier end and Brother doesn't bug me. But that's just me! I do agree though, it's nice to have other people's opinions as a guide, especially a bunch of other folks who have the book...

I was thinking this as well re brother. Likely a product of the binding process.

I’d reach out to Paul to see if he has any slip cases lying around for IAL.

I have to start storing away a lot of my trade editions that I don't really care about to make room for my more elaborate editions.

Then when you fill everything up with the books you want to show off, you have to make some hard decisions on the ones you'll store away.

Unless that is, you have more space for books than you know what to do with. My dream scenario is to have a fairly large dedicated study/library room. Maybe some day...

I initially paid $233 for it. I guess if I hold off it might go up in value over the next year or two. There's only two other copies of it on ebay right now. My listing price is $365.99.

Yikes, that's no good. I'll email you a return label and I will send you a replacement. That's clearly damaged, no question about that. Can you please just submit the contact form on the website with your order #. Thanks! And apologies for that!

Thanks so much Paul, I wasn't sure if this rose to the level of being replaced. You are awesome!

I think he’s talking about the designations being in red, not the spine. There were 15 of those weren’t there?
Pretty sure there were 4. You said something like you had extra and wanted to have some fun so you made the spine red.

Yes you are correct, there are 4 red spines. But we’re talking about the color of the designations in the book, not the spine.

I'm guessing you're just being a smarty pants, but this is for books only. And it begins with Hill House.

I basically did the same as RF, entered most recent purchase (Wastelands print) and ... nothing. Tried the one before that ... nothing. Tried 1984 ... nothing. Just figured that your data was tied to e-mail and the order number was a verifier. Other than AGEs and prints, my last Designation buy was Misery, which is before Hill House; and even if it was in there, I don't have the order number anymore!

Still, great tool for customer reference, good on ya Paul.

Cool feature. I actually started by entering my Misery number because I have it memorized and nothing was found. I then looked up my more recent order and get the list. Even though I have skipped several books all my current preorders match my Horn's Limited which was not expected but very cool. So all my numbers to date will match except Misery and Brother (which I purchased from another retailer). Also noticed, for the first time, that my Misery and Horns are very close numbers I have #184 Misery and #189 for the rest.

So with this designation lookup, I'll copy and paste some text I added in case anyone missed it:

Designations are attached to an email address and order number. If you have used more than one email address across multiple orders, you will need to search on each email. The Designations database for this search feature begins with The Haunting of Hill House

Also it is for books only. Not prints, not paperweights, statues or anything else that isn't a book. ;-)

Not sure how accurate it is or anything but it might interest some folks here since Suntup is bringing the Jackson heat!

Another great video, Paul. And nice shirt! I was wondering if you noticed the shirt I started wearing for my Suntup unboxings.

This was the first FB live video I wasn't able to watch right as it began. I jumped on near the end and had to watch everything I missed after it was posted. I missed it because the agency I work for called a meeting very suddenly at that exact time to inform us that several of my coworkers were laid off. The universe is sending me a very clear message, I would think.

And yet, there's no way I'm missing tomorrow's pre-order. Raise your Panna to another wonderful edition and always err on the side of joy!

The thing about Rosemary is many want to display the book with the jacket reversed. SO... you have many Suntup collectors with two copies AND it is the lowest print run of any artist/gift for Suntup. When it was released, many didn't know about Suntup. As the following and customer base grows, these people are like vampires trying to suck up anything they can that has already been released. I would not be surprised to see this one push higher. Even without having two copies, it proves a hard one to obtain.

if Let The Right One In is the next book it'll be cool if they added the epilogue story Let The Old Dreams Die as well as a nice bonus

It’s there with “What Kept You So Long?“.

I have thought about the august release for some time now.
I, for one, am almost certain it's going to be William Gibson's Neuromancer but what if it's not?

Could it be Software written by Rudy Rucker?
He is still alive.
It's the first part of 4 novels, which were eventually collected in The Ware Tetralogy in 2010 with an introduction by William Gibson.

I just can't seem to find if it won multiple awards, i do know it has won the first ever Philip K. Dick Award.

Weird question: did anyone here order a Misery Dust Jacket recently? I got an email from Suntup saying that my order had shipped, consisting of one Misery Dust Jacket. I don’t remember ordering one, and have no record of an order in my account or banking history. I’m curious how this ended up being sent to me. Anywho, I emailed Suntup to ask about it but figured I may as well ask here too.

Edit: Turns out, Paul saw in a Facebook photo that I had a crooked printed dust jacket on my Misery AGE and figured I needed a replacement. Absolutely blown away.

Ordered a numbered and an AGE!

The paperweight is giving me anxiety (not hard to do when you always have anxiety). I want it so bad and it'll look amazing next to its matching Horns paperweight. But dammit if I ain't poor!

It is my goal to stay aboard the Suntup train for as long as I can. I know this doesn't necessarily include the extras, but just LOOK AT IT! It feels like I'd be letting myself down by not getting it.

I’ll probably get the gift, numbered and paperweight which is now the most I’ve ever spent on something like this.

One small quibble with the art is that in the book Oskar is described as being fat (I know he wasn’t in either of the films) so that’s something I might have done differently.

But anyways I’m excited that LTROI is finally getting a limited edition. It should be interesting to see reactions from people reading it for the first time if they’ve only seen the films, it’s a very different experience.

And what was the story behind launching a series of paperweight as addon? I think that this is a very ingenuous idea, but... where does that come from? Inspired by the snowglobes?

So, does anyone have thoughts on why the price for the AGE’s seems to vary so much from book to book? For example: why is LTROI double the price of Red Dragon? I’ve been buying the AGE’s since I learned of them but I’ve never read this book and I was a bit surprised at the price tag.

Page count, materials used, printing method, contract obligations, etc.

These things sure. Primarily page count. That’s the biggest contributing factor to cost. However the bigger reason for the increased price is that these editions were losing money. And if we are to continue making them, well it wouldn’t work to keep running at a loss.

JGeis

That makes perfect sense. Thank you for the transparency. Do you expect most AGE’s to be in the same range as 1984 and LTROI going forward, then? I’m also very curious as to how you determine which books not to produce AGE’s for. For example, someone on this thread previously speculated that the next book may be Neuromancer. If that turns out to be true and no AGE is done for that book (as I believe the next book was said to be lettered and numbered only?), that would be unfortunate (at least for me, lol). The lettered and numbered editions are simply out of my price range but I would have bought AGE’s for most of the books that did not have one if they had been produced. Thanks again for any insight you are able to offer!

This what I figured. So either raise the price, or don't make them. It's a business. We all understand that. So it still may flucuate, or do you see $130 the right mark for AGE. The Numbered seem to vary a lot. For the same reasons I am guessing. Anyway, I was on the fence for a bit if I should get both but in the end I did. But no paper weight. I need to draw the line somewhere so I can keep more cabbage for books in general. And congrats Paul and Becca. It's a great production. I will say only this. If you are waiting for Sat, you better move fast for a numbered. I don't think Paul would like it if I said how many were left. I will just say you may have to move with a purpose.

I don’t think there’s any harm in sharing the total. Currently there are 56 available. My guess is there will be less than 10 for the public preorder available. This will go the same way as 1984.

As far as price for the AGEs goes—that gravy train has ended. Lol. I thought Paul put too much weight on the word GIFT when he priced those up until 1984. Because he was giving them away. Red Dragon AGE’s price was just nuts and I hate myself for not buying two. Because once that Dragon starts to prowl, it’ll command a much higher price.

And let me add, the AGEs are wonderful editions all their own. I've said it before, they are not any sort of consolation prize. I love it when Paul does them and I'm glad there are collectors who can enjoy these books at that level. With the way things are heading, I'll probably be an AGE-only collector someday. And happy to get them! It's been a cosmic oversight that I've been riding the numbered train for as long as I have. LOL.

Anyway I just wanted to follow my other post because I thought I sounded like I was making a judgment on those who were buying the AGE's for such a low price. Like I was indicating they were ripping Paul off or Paul was being taken advantage of. I wasn't saying any of that. Only the price adjustment seemed to make total sense when you consider the work put into these books.

And now I've overexplained and overshared.

We have a complex system for determining if we do an AGE or not. It's based on this concept:

http://suntup.press/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/mailletter.gif

But in seriousness, here's an article (https://support.suntup.press/knowledge-base/why-dont-you-publish-an-artist-gift-edition-for-every-title/) which I think will answer your question as to why we don't do AGE's for every title.

Will future AGE's be in that price range? Possibly yes, but every book is different in some way so I can't speculate where things will fall on future editions. Although unless we increase print runs dramatically, I don't see AGE's going out at the $65 or $75 point in the future.

Lastly, for the next book, there are things which just have to remain private and can't be shared, and there are reasons for not doing an AGE of next month's book. But know that when we can, and it makes sense, we include an AGE in the mix.

I presume that the number of AGEs on the site already reflect the copies going to other storefronts (Camelot, Letterpress, Sub Press, etc), right?

Otherwise, it'd be crazy to think that nearly 400 of them have sold to individuals already! Especially when you consider that only 276 people should theoretically have access to that sale page currently.

I am on the east cost and it is 10:00 AM. Right now there are only 12 numbered left and the lettered is out of print. And 595 GE. So if you want a numbered one, you are going to have to be quick.

Glad I got mine already!

I'm probably going to be ordering the AGE from Letterpress so I don't have my card charged until it's getting ready to ship.

Looks like a lottery for the numbered. That's the first time I think that has happened. It has been happening for the lettered recently, but this is the first time it has happened for a numbered.

I thought it happened with the numbered 1984

NOTE: Due to the last few books being sold by Lottery, designation lookup for Let the Right One in will not be available till the Lottery Draw has been completed on Weds.

That was different. Paul took the first 17 emails and then notified the people who were allowed to buy. So you still had to be quick. This is a random drawing from entries received from now til Monday.

Okay so that's what it was. So there will be around 10 available?

I can see why Paul is bumping up the numbered to 350. The demand is greater than ever right now.

Entered the lottery for the numbered, the negative side of this ; i did not buy the AGE for the time being. If the lottery doesn't work out and there's still copies of the AGE left then i'll buy It.

If it's not ...... I'll be 😥

Congrats on the HUGE sell out Paul! 👌🏻

There should still be copies then. I wouldn't wait a month though.

Signed up for the lottery. I'll probably go for a matching paperweight if that pans out. Over 100 have sold already.

Thank you and to you as well! Don't take it personal if we draw each other for the caged death match that Paul has now instituted instead of the lottery. Although, I suppose it's still a lottery of sorts :)

I won't take it personal, never do. If it comes to that, so be it. Death smiles to us all, all a man can do is smile back. 😬

Thanks Brian!

I know Camelot books has one listed for $6000. Maybe Kim we'll come down on that price.

I know they usually don't. She said to me in an email that if someone is spending thousands of dollars on their site they might make an exception in certain situations.

Now would that situation be for the Misery numbered edition? Probably not. But who knows

I've had a busy few days for some reason....

SO.... I have been wanting to post this but have not had a chance. If you recall, on one of the FB live videos I had a Rubik's Cube on the desk. The first person to notice it during the live broadcast was Patrick. So he wins an ARC of Let The Right One In. Congratulations Patrick!

Then we have someone who first mentioned it on this forum in this post (https://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?20875-Suntup-Press&p=1202646&viewfull=1#post1202646), so he also gets a prize, and that was Noxus35. ARC for you too!

And finally..... the grand prize goes to the person who correctly identified the actual book from the clue. This person wins a PC copy of the Numbered edition of Let The Right One In. And the winner is CyberGhostface, who guessed correctly on this post (https://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?20875-Suntup-Press&p=1202661&viewfull=1#post1202661).

Congratulations to the winners!!

Oh, I should mention. These ARC winners will receive the rarer red variant ARC pictured here.
