I wouldn't even begin to guess a price. I KNOW it would be way beyond what I would be able to pay. A unique item with a fantastic provenance.

Question: Why is it so odd?

Ari, read the inscription--King says it's the first book he's ever signed.
John
Oh, I didn't read the inscription.
Thanks! Sorry. Senior moment.

I have to say that I am bothered quite a bit by the fact that the ffe has been reattached to the book using some sort of masking tape. It is still a unique book but.....wow.....that is quite a defect.
I suppose, if one wanted to play the devil's advocate, that you couldn't prove that King signed THAT particular ARC.
After spending >$16K the buyer could probably have the best restoration possible for only another $1K or $2K.
Probably less than that. I'll bet George Sargent at Dragonfly would charge only a couple of hundred to clean the page and reattach it. But still, that fact that it is reattached, no matter how professionally, is a potential deal killer for me. I'm not sure why I feel that way about it. I just do.
The reattached FFE is a major defect, but presuming it is the first King book signature and the paper is from a (and hopefully THE) Carrie ARC, worrying about the validity is a deal breaker if it keeps a person up at night, but I have no doubt someone will pay a handsome sum.
I agree with you Bob. Although I have no reason to doubt it was not just the way it was repaired it will surely be a lot of $$ to carry that suspicion. Whenever a really High $$ item like this comes up I sometimes wonder how much it would cost to have a 1st State Salem's DJ made too?
I guess it all comes down to a simple choice for me. "Get Busy Living, or Get Busy Dying".
I actually was in contact with this seller last year and he sent me pictures of those items. If I was rich I would own them now but alas the only riches I possess are my good looks, sterling personality, charisma, high good humor, irresistibleness to women and a penchant for making up lies about myself.
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
The answer to the question I referred to. I too, had heard and always thought there was a Carrie Proof (or was it a 1st?) with his first autograph out there inscribed to his Mom. Been so long now I couldn't tell you where it originated from. And it could still be true.

The Houston Astros cheated Major League Baseball from 2017-18!!!! Is that how we teach our kids to play the game now?????
...which leads to another question: are there any (super)collectors out there that we don't know of?
Did the seller provide asking prices?
Now that Greg brought up the 1st state 'Salem's Lot DJ: who would trade that for this Carrie ARC (if we ignore the loose, taped-in page)? Bob, Hutch, ur2nd? I think I would, actually.
I know one or two of them but it would be really interesting to see if someone totally unknown to the King community shows up and gets it. I mean, you would expect anyone who is interested in this stuff to have an impressive King collection (or book collection in general) already - you don't buy items like these on impulse (unless maybe you're a movie star or something like that).
