I know exactly how you feel. I almost stopped collecting some years ago when every book I had an interest in seemed to have so many multiple editions before the first trade copy came out it was impossible to afford or even find them. But my fever returned and even though I'm still frustrated I still try to get whatever I can.
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
