In my experience, collector's seem to prefer an artist remarque a book he did the illustrations for initially. Personally, I like the idea of the artist remarques in other editions, but they do not seem to be as desirable and can even de-value the book. That' just MHO BTWOriginally Posted by barlow

For me, the remarque has value if the artist who illustrated the book did it. I wouldn't be interested if this is not the scenario.

The other result is HAVANNA, a graphic novel about the Cuba journey that includes sketches and a comic short story.

I started to write this post in response to Joe Hill's thread about Vincent Chong remarques for The Shining S/L editions, which I consider are too expensive. And I realized that when it comes to remarques, somehow I seem to have some "rules":
- I don't like at all when the book is remarqued by someone who didn't have an illustration/cover on the book.
- I'm not quite comfortable with S/L editions being remarqued. Don't ask me why, but I feel that the remarque should be considered prior the announcement of the book and have its exclusive page for that if it's included in a S/L edition. BUT I feel they're great in regular hardcovers or gift editions.
Even when I really like most of the artist's works, I think that some artists had too many remarques in the last years to the point that they lost their "appeal" (IMHO). I mean, I love Vincent Chong, Glenn Chadbourne and Ned Dameron artwork and remarques, but I see at least one new from the group almost every week. I really would like to see some new stuff, not only when it comes to remarques but also about illustrations. I really LOVE to see new artists working in limited editions, such as the cover for IT 25th anniversary made by Orbik, Tomislav Tikulin's artwork or the illustrations made by Erin Wells. Of course, we all have our favorites (I don't think I'd ever grow tired of Mark Stutzman artwork (he definitively deserves to illustrate a limited edition!) or Michael Whelan (when are we going to have a S/L edition of Hearts in Atlantis (Michael's favorite book) illustrated by him?) but it'd be really nice to discover new artists for the upcoming limited editions.
And another really nice thing would be to know a new S/L or lettered edition with a "twisted" designed, like The Regulators S/L or lettered edition, or some of Charnel House's books. It's not that I don't like the current S/L editions (far from that...I love 'em!) but it'd be so great to see new designs.
