    There are other magic books that start a fire when opened. I just never saw one with "Firestarter" as the title. The idea is the person opens the book, begins to read, and a fire starts.

    My best guess is that the tube is a match holder and has a spring. You load a match and place in the down position. While opening the book the spring will pull the match up and scrape across the back surface which will cause the match to light. I would think the strap is fire resistant and keeps the whole mess from burning up. Probably doesnt work very well and appears that the spring is broken.

    Hard to tell if the spring is broken, but I believe Br!an has it right. The cloth is similar to a Zippo lighters interior.
    If it was $25 BIN, I would have bought it for shit and giggles, but $50 is beyond my fun zone.
