OK, I lost and Tippy, deservedly won, but I was pretty proud of this description and at the risk of being vilified I offer it for your analysis and possible enjoyment.
"The only viable word to describe the situation surrounding the online sale of the S/L 11/22/63, offered by Simon & Schuster is "Cluster-Fuck". Sleuthing around it appears that the "I.T." dept. at S&S attempted to include a "discount code" to eliminate $9.99 from the original $159.99 purchase price. The result of that endeavor was that a veritable "Log-jam" occurred at the "Front-door" of the on-line order process. Ingenious TDT.Org members were able to find a way past the programming SNAFU and allow members here, to "fool" the system by accessing an order page, utilizing a "View Cart" entry. Approximately 100 folks were able to actually order the tome and receive the required "Verification Emails", but only those emails that were delivered prior to noon EST.
On the Announcement date, S&S acknowledged the SNAFU and advised all that did not receive a copy that the order process would be suspended until Thursday, 11/10/11 at 10:30 a.m. EST, allowing those that had already purchased the title to remain unscathed and promised to "honor" thos orders. Subsequent to this announcement, and never "formally announced" to the public, S&S revised the order process to include an "Online Lottery" where potential buyer's would submit their names/email's/address's to S&S and receive later notification of the ability to purchase the book between the date of the "Blessed" right to buy email and 11/30/11.
Despite having previous experience with the SNAFU surrounding the S/L of TGWLTG, S&S managed to "out-due" themselves with their mis-handling of this highly anticipated new Stephen King book release. While the final results of this latest S&S fiasco have yet to reveal themselves one can remain fairly certain that further inequities and outrageous mishaps are still to come".
