I own two of these myself, and this is the nicest copy I have ever seen. It is in Fine condition

100% of the net proceeds of this auction go to our 2011 Fundraiser at TheDarkTower.org

The fundraiser benefits The Haven Foundation. First established with the help of Stephen King, The Haven Foundation helps “ ‘greatest need’ cases would be freelance artists—writers, readers, and those in the associated publishing industry—who have found themselves unable to work due to disease or accident”.

BTW, I listed this (with carlosdetweiller's blessing) before the other auction has finished. I thought it would be cool to have a few items up for auction that MIGHT fetch less than $1K

Me neither - I'm more of the snipe-bidding type. In this case I did it out of curiosity - I put in a bid of $45 (which was not enough to take the lead) and I wanted to know if $55 would be enough to earn the temporary top spot. It wasn't. But I'm not ashamed at all to say that I'm trying to drive up the price a bit for the good cause.

Yes, I'm all for whatever raises more donation dollars for the Fundraiser. It was more a general statement about eBay auction bidding (this one just happened to remind me of it). I'm glad people are having fun with these things.

Good point about having some (relatively) less expensive items out there!

I guess its to try to get a deal, but I guess it may be misguided. Not everyone can say definitively what a book is worth and regardless you try to get it as cheap as possible. Even though this may not be the venue for that, habits die hard!! LOL

If you want to get a books as cheap as possible on eBay the only way is to refrain from bidding, lull your competition into a false sense of security and put in a snipe bid in the last five seconds. What we're doing now is an ordinary bidding war which drives up the price with several days to go. No way it will go cheap anymore... but in this case, that's a good thing!

Oh no, I know it doesn't really apply in these cases. However, in a regular auction you have no idea what someone else is willing to pay, so you move up the ladder incremently to see what the auction market is like. That plus old habits die hard!!!

Actually, a legitimate signed copy of the glossy cover is probably a rarity.

I don't think I have ever seen a signed copy of the regular newsstand edition.
