Curiously, I'm totally fine with the prequel. Getting more back story (or side-story) is different from writing 'what happened next' definitively. I like the ending of TDT, and happen to think about it quite often; it's quite interesting to notice how the thinking changes depending on the stage of life that I'm at.
Fully agree with sticking to the books. I would very much like to see the books in all their splendor made into movies, rather than being cut down to size, to fit some perceived standard.

Actually I thought the movie ending to The Mist was the best SK movie ending ever!!! I thought the book ending was stupid! [SPOILERthe book ending had the father whispering to his son "Hartford, hope" boring![/SPOILER] The movie ending really shook me up and made me remember the movie and made me think about it long after I saw it.

The Houston Astros cheated Major League Baseball from 2017-18!!!! Is that how we teach our kids to play the game now?????
I don't know how I want the movie to be. As few changes as possible from the books but that's what all of us geeks want, imho. But we all know there are going to be changes and plenty of them just to fit into the limited space that even three movies and a mini series can offer.
How about this for a change, I forget which books prologue or epilogue it is that King says that we have to be prepared for the very real possibility that Roland isn't the one to make it to the Tower. lol.
Rumour:Chrstian Bale New Front runner for Dark Tower Movie?

Also this, wtf?
Also Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter and Ghita Tazi are supposedly on the short list for the role of Suzannah.
A few months ago I would definitely be against the idea, but after seeing his dedicatiom to the role he played in The Fighter . . . I could get on board with this idea. Even though I know Hollywood rumors do not carry much weight . . . Especially this early in the game.

No Christian Bale. He's a good actor, but: no.
And if a white woman plays Susannah, I swear I will not see the movies at all.
I wouldn't watch it either. Here's another link, the original one was removed.

Christian Bale... No Way

Javier Bardem Wanted for The Dark Tower
Not sure if he'll take it, but there it is. I'd prefer Viggo, but I'll take Bardem over some of the other choices. And if Susannah is white I'm going to flip out. I probably won't see the movies anyway because I'm afraid of how ruined they'll be, but that will be an extra ten nails in the coffin.
I also preferred the movie ending to The Mist... it was horrifying and awesome. The book ending would never have worked on film anyway, you know people would have walked out pissed.
I am not digging this...
Firstly, it's not Roland if he doesn't have bombardier blue eyes... Bardem is great and all but he doesn't have the look for Roland...
Secondly, Carpenter better be Allie... If she (or anyone white) will portray Susannah it will destroy DT for many of us... I can't see this happening...
Zoe Saldana would be prefect!
I do agree that Roland definitely needs to keep his blue eyes in tact. If they do not find an actor with blue eyes . . . They better get some really convicing contacts. And Susannah NEEDS to be black. How thwy are even considering a white actress for the role is idiocy.

Exactly! That makes me think of the Fantastic Four movie, and how they got a dark haired, dark eyed woman to play a blond blue eyed woman. She just looked creepy throughout the entire film.
Seriously? A white Susanah? What is wrong with these people? I can't see Stephen going for that.
“There are no men like me. There's only me”- The Kingslayer
Considering they stated that Bale was ahead of Bardem... then Bardem is apparently offered the role, I'd take those white actress suggestions with a pinch of salt. I wouldn't be surprised if people who haven't read the books were having a discussion about actresses and someone heard etc, etc... Media Chinese Whispers .Spoiler:I really hope they don't change Susannah's race. I'd rather they didn't even cast a mixed race or light skinned 'black' woman. (By that, I mean the really fair black ladies. I'm aware there are shades of brown that fit Susannah's description just fine.)
Also I never thought Bardem particularly had the right look for Roland. As others have said, he has blue eyes (although yes they can go the contact route) but his whole face and type looks different to my mental view. He has a more hispanic type look, the kind I'd imagine seeing in Mejis. (One google later, apparently he is Spanish.) I'd see how he does though.
I hope I don't come across as a racist in this post. I just want the actors to be cast close to the characters they portray whatever, their race happens to be.

Seems as if Viggo is out of the question. Which makes Bardem the best choice to me.
Official news: Ron Howard has offered the role to Javier Bardem. No word on whether or not he has accepted. (confirmed on SKMB by Ms. Mod)

I think he could be great. I know everyone has a mental image of Roland, but Bardem can blend into roles. He has demonstrated icy cold killer already.
Love the choice of Bardem!
Uh-ho
Not my idea of Roland at all, but we'll see. He's a fine actor so maybe, if he accepts, this will not be disastrous after all.

Excellent actor. I'm really glad that the choices were all good actors. This can't go wrong!
