Congress needs to get off their lazy asses and actually codify these things if they want it to be federal law. The supreme does not make law or policy. Congress leaves these important issues up in the air because it’s something to run on.
After Roe v. Wade, there was no need for a specific law, because the Supreme court ruled that the US Constitution protected a pregnant woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. In effect, it was codified by law.

It appears Roe v. Wade may now be overturned. Codifying the right to choose with federal legislation would have resolved the issue.
"One day you're going to figure out that everything they taught you was a lie."
Codifying the right to choose into a separate law would have made little difference. That law would still have been subject to judicial review if challenged, just as the US Constitution is, and the law itself could be changed by any subsequent administration.
There's nothing that makes federal law magically more inviolable than the US constitution, or the Supreme Court's interpretation of it. Judicial precedence plays an enormous role in the interpretation, application and enforcement of every law, at every level. A Supreme Court ruling sets a judicial precedent that is one of the strongest re-enforcements of law we have. Federal legislation is no stronger, certainly.
What is remarkable here is not that the right to choose was not encoded in federal law, but that the Supreme Court was so ready to completely overturn the ruling of a previous Supreme Court. No mere federal statute would stand against such powerful ideological intent.
If the right to choose had been codified into a specific piece of legislation, the efforts by the Republican Party over the last 12 years to orchestrate a challenge to Roe v Wade in the Supreme Court would have, instead, been focused on challenging that law as unconstitutional .. in the same Supreme Court. The method would have been different, but the result would have been the same.

First one has commentary and is short....
and the second is pure Carlin. Seems like this was taped yesterday.
It's far easier for the SC to overturn their own decision than to overturn a law passed by Congress.
It's also harder to overturn legislation that is constitutional than a previous court decision that is unconstitutional.

Tuesday night Chad, Patrick, and I (along with guests) went to San Francisco to see Neil Gaiman. Gaiman read from stories, answered pre-submitted questions, and read a few poems.

I guess nobody really expected it, and they went fast.
Although, I guess it may makes sense. The book was officially released a little more than a year ago, so I guess the publisher thought it was time to clear up the extra copies they may have had in case of lost complaints... and they put them up?
Hoping you got one as it said

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
