My AMC opens tomorrow.
There are a few AMCs I go to but one of the ones with the biggest IMAX opens tomorrow as well. I decided to check it out and get tickets for Sunday matinee. There were no seats taken on Fandago, all were available, but apparently they lock out the seats around you once you purchase. Haven't checked yet. We also finally got AMC Prime not far from me, so if I enjoy Tenet as much as I think I will, maybe I'll finally get to see my first movie in Prime next week.
Ah, let us know how your theater experience is, will you? If it's crowded, if people obey the masking rules, if you feel comfortable, etc. I really want to go but I'm waffling between desire and caution. I did check out the ticketing situation on AMC's site, though. I saw the same thing you did--no seats taken. But on showtimes where there were seats taken, there's a seat or two X'ed out as a buffer between you and another party. I'd still like a bigger buffer, though. I guess it depends on how many people turn up for each show.
A NEW GAME BEGINS
Honestly I'm a bit apprehensive myself, they say theaters will be maximum at 40% capacity so that should allow for safe distance. I couldn't go during the week but I'm hoping 1 PM on Sunday is not going to be at 40%.
I've always been a back of the theater guy, so that kind of worked out for me for COVID. I feel that is ideal. You know people won't be in back of you.
The other nice thing with the new recliners is that there's way more spacing than there used to be between rows.

Yes, I agree about the recliner spacing and 40% capacity--both good things. I'm going to be paranoid when/if I hear someone cough or sneeze, though.
A NEW GAME BEGINS
I’d also be worried about sitting in a community recliner. I have zero confidence that teens being paid minimum wage during a pandemic are really going to be on top of cleaning those chairs. Maybe I’m just paranoid.
My sister and I went to see Bill and Ted at my local theater on Monday. They don't have advance seat selection, so I had been apprehensive. It turns out there were only two other people at the showing and they sat way down in the front. One of them did sneeze and my sister and I looked at each other.
That's a valid concern. Maybe bring a blanket to put down and just wash it or something.

No, I'd be a hermit Thank goodness we've got it under control where we are, and fingers crossed we stay on top of it.

I am somewhat a germaphobe and didn't have much reservation about going to the theater. It helped that Cinemark automatically put two empty seats on each side of your party and showed how they sprayed down seats. It probably also helped that I am more exposed at work every day than at the theater so I guess I am a little desensitized to the risk.
See!
Hazmat suit. Haha. And then burn it.
Honestly, I'm more wary of being in close contact with other people more than I am of picking up the virus from touching surfaces. I'm pretty good about washing and sanitizing and not touching my face, but the thought of all those particles blowing through the air after a cough or sneeze...
A NEW GAME BEGINS
I'm a dead center of the theater kind of person
I have to be centered with the screen and prefer to be several rows ahead of half way up in the theater. When I’m too far back I start to wonder why I didn’t just watch it on my home projector.
For those looking to get back to the movie theaters. Just an FYI:

Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?
Oh thats my main concern too. If it was just the seats I'd disinfect them before I sat down. My main worry is breathing in the air, even with a mask on. I pretty much have avoided any indoor space where people are not wearing masks at all times. Plus how can I go to the theater and not get movie popcorn!

That's why I'm cramming in as many movies as I can. I saw Possessor yesterday. I was the only person in the theater. The writing is on the wall.

Any good? I’m seeing Honest Thief Thursday. Seeing all I can... word in our town is they are filing chapter 11 by end of November and closing. The movie industry is stupid to hold these movies back. They need theatres. No 100’s of millions to be made with streaming them.. that’s for sure

Possessor was okay. It's an arthouse Sci-fi flick.
Brandon Cronenberg is definitely a chip off the old block. There are quite a few scenes that made me look away and I never get squeamish.
I will say that I applaud Nolan for having the balls to release Tenet. Nobody else wanted to even give it a shot.
