Same here - gotta hold off spending on books to buy things like new appliances...
25 posts later.... and noone mentioned what the holy grail at betts that sold was .... really?
can you guys be more obscure?
It was a lettered Gunslinger, and it sold for $1000 more than what Shannon was asking for one.
Keep up Terry...
Gunslinger LETTER "AG" IN FINE/FINE/FINE CONDITION - $7,500
yeah? well... me thinks shannon was asking to little... I paid almost that much many moons ago for my lettered "L" copy ...
of course, mine was owned by King himself until 2001, when he signed/inscribed it and gave it to a friend... (according to Stu)
so it is double signed.... (and not for sale at this time)
I have decided that my secretary of dreams 1 and 2 lettered editions will be my next EBAY auction....
heads up.... for any interested... publisher price was $1500.00 - and I'm going to sale them as a matched pair... so that will give you guys an idea of where the reserve price will be around.... slightly higher than they cost me.
I think Shannon's price was PERFECT!
Lettered SoD tend to sell for less than issue price. The last one on ebay which actually sold, went for $1461. most do not sell.

Ralph sold his matched set at Betts for $3000 recently. (Less commission)
I bought a matched Lettered set w/Full Page Color Chadbourne remarques for $3,000........See collection thread pics. They are GORGEOUS.....
I would think, realistically, that a standard matched Lettered Set would sell for around $2,500 - $2,750.
Good luck Terry! Looking forward to seeing more of your items!
Just curious, but why would the lettereds sell for less on the secondary market? Is it because there are so few people interested in spending that amount of money, they probably already picked up a copy for themselves when they were for sale, so there aren't many people interested in buying them now?
I think you are 100% correct.
The target market for lettered editions is much smaller due to their cost ($300 for a numbered vs. $1,500 for a lettered in this case).

I'm always too late!
I see Betts had a Christine S/L available for $650. Not a bad price at all.
thats a great price for that book!
I bought the Christine. I've had money put aside for Eyes of the Dragon, but I can't one find one for sale that fit my budget. I have very rarely seen this book up for sale, so I decided to go ahead and get it.
Congrats Eric, i went for the Salem's Lot 1st!
Thank you all for your kind words above. I've said this before...and it may be hard for some (who don't know me too well) to believe in this day and age, but I so get a thrill out of helping other collectors find that book that "fits" their collection at the moment. I do make a small profit on most books I sell, but that is secondary to me. I think everyone looks for a way to give back to people nor "pay forward" the kindnesses they have received. Betts is my calling in that regard. As a big time collector myself, my thrill is helping people with their collections (and believe me, I've thrilled myself with some things I've picked up for my personal collection). My intention is to cointinue doing this for a long time to come.
On a side note...I'm finally going to take some vaca time with the family. I'll be "closed" during extended Memorial Day weekend...about 5 days to be exact, starting next Thursday.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Wallet: "Betts closed. Yipee!"
