So my mom had a mini stroke last night and will be in the hospital for a few days.
Went to see her this morning and she definitely has some jumbled speech issues.

I've been told that I'm going to need a shoulder replacement. The arthritis in my left shoulder is so bad that it's caused a number of bone spurs to develop, so that the orthopedist said it's like fitting a square peg in a round hole. This is causing me a substantial amount of pain, too. It gets worse as the day goes, so that the pain level is a 7-9 on a 10-point scale by evening.

Has anyone here had such a surgery? What can I expect?

I went to the doctor yesterday and he told me that he does not do total shoulder replacements--only two doctors at the Cleveland Clinic do them. I got an appointment to see one of them the end of August. I guess I'll just have to put up with the discomfort for a while longer. Oh, well.

I don't know you but I thought I'd share anyway. But first of all, I’m very sorry to hear about your mother. Best wishes for great health soon!

I had a mini-stroke last August and I didn't even know it until I went to the hospital! My speech was way off and I had some short-term memory issues. I was hospitalized for a week or so but was able to return to work soon thereafter. I tell you that because what you described sounded like a lot of what happened to me. If so, (and I hope it is even less severe than mine), complete recovery is possible. The brain will start "healing" itself soon but it may take up to a full year before complete normalcy returns. But it is very possible...and I wanted you to know it.

I hope her stroke was even milder than mine and I pray that she realizes a complete recovery soon. Again, wishing her, you, and your family best wishes going forward.
