Our schools, while lockerless, provided two sets of books, one for home and one for class so we didn't kill ourselves carrying 25 pounds of books everyday.
We had wimpy kids to carry our books
We always had lockers ... how could you not have lockers?!
Driving over to Breckenridge tomorrow afternoon, making a quasi 3-day weekend out of it. I'm looking at knee surgery late Jan/early Feb sometime so no skiing for me this trip, probably just take the kids sledding and hang around town. Supposed to snow a good portion of the weekend, should be nice.
WANT LIST: Any SK #186; Dark Man Unbound 1st Proof; FDNS Unbound 1st Proof; FDNS Black Tape Spine Proof; FDNS Unbound Color Proof
It was a new school and built with no lockers. I don't know what the reasoning was but it was a real pain for my daughter to tote her books around. I know a few classes had textbooks left in the classes however the majority she had to carry.
Have fun on your trip and good luck with the surgery.

Another shooting in CT today
go to yahoo.com
horrible-
I've been watching Fox News and MSNBC. What is wrong with this world??? At least 27 dead--18 kids (maybe kindergartners!) and 8 adults and the shooter.
John
And one shooter may be at large?
Horrible
What could possibly go through someone's head to open fire at a number of children. While I am very glad that he killed himself, why couldn’t he have shot himself first, before going on a rampage against kids?!?!
Suicide with infamy. Crazy bastard couldn't just eat a bullet in the woods, he has to harm truly innocent people.
Words are not enough.
Sick and so sad. My prayers to those families affected by this event.
Wanted list:

Truly bizarre. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families, and I hope no one here is affected.
Our own David from Betts Books is only 25 miles away.
Thank God that his kids are too old to be in that school.
John
Terrible terrible tragedy, just shows me again how wrong gun laws are in the US
Gun laws are a passionate debate here in the USA.
The largest massacre of schoolchildren in USA history was in 1927 by an angry farmer who used explosives to blow up a school.
Crazy people will always do crazy things.
The 911 event was carried out without a gun...
Guns dont kill people; people kill people.
reality continues to ruin my life
My wife being a teacher, this scares the hell out of me.
You are correct Jerome, people don't need guns to kill.
Just the madness.
Prayers for the victims and families.
Karl
But still... restricted access to guns seems to be correlated to lower homicide rates (five times lower here than in the US, and only 0.4% of our population has a permit to carry a firearm. Similar numbers for other 'Western' nations with strict gun regulations).
I'm not taking a stance here, or trying to start a discussion. I think we will all agree that something needs to change.
Completely agree with Jerome. People who do something as horrific as this typically have psychological issues. Look at what happened in China today as well. A mentally unbalanced man slashed 22 people (mostly children) at a school. Gut feeling tells me that the more we hear about the CT shooter, the more we're going to learn about his checkered past.
