Where is buying other companies's pollution credits the law? Cap and trade did not pass in the US Congress. Are you talking about state measures, or programs in another country?

I actually meant to retract "10. Subsidies for oil companies" in favor of the broader "corporate welfare." Another way, perhaps, would be to amend 2. to U.S. Tax Laws!!! (Republican) and make 9. into U.S. Tax Laws!!! (Democrat).

... If it is no longer legal in the US (which to my knowledge it still is; if a company has a surplus of pollution credits they can sell said surplus to companies with a deficit), it was in the past. Regardless, I know some countries don't even have pollution laws, and ones that do have corrupt governments. Even if not corrupt, they could run off the (new-to-me) old US model. So I submit that it should still be counted because the original post of the topic was for world-wide laws.

You know, I'm personally an ardent environmentalist, but not such an extremist that I think we should simply bring industries to a halt without time to develop alternatives -- the price to spare kids from artificial toxins should not be leaving seniors to natural frost in unheated residences. Sorry for complicating the thread. It's just an interesting item to me; what you dislike about it is not as obvious as was the case with earlier contributions.

No problem; since I was going to be a lawyer, I do enjoy debating from time to time. Though I didn't think I'd have to defend my posts in a game thread I was not trying to say I want a complete ban on anything. I just believe companies should have to adhere to standards set forth and not be able to circumvent these standards by buying greener companies excess. That's all.

Admittedly, I'm not expertly versed in the subject. But it's moot now regardless. Play ball!
