Loved the stories!!!
John
Properly speaking, these questions don't belong here (apologies), but since those able to answer them can probably be found here, this is where I'm putting them:
Concerning these three editions of Salem's Lot:
- Centipede Press
- Cemetery Dance (the only one of these I own (but I have not read it))
- Doubleday "illustrated" edition (ISBN: 0385516487)
Re: Photos:
Given:
Both the Centipede and Doubleday editions have the Jerry Uelsmann photos.
Question:
Are they the same, or does one edition have some the other lacks? (I know the Cemetery Dance edition has its own artwork and lacks these photos altogether)
Re: Text:
Given:
The Centipede edition includes "deleted scenes from the original manuscript."
The Doubleday includes "fifty pages of material deleted from the 1975 manuscript as well as material that has since been modified by King, an introduction by him, and two short stories related to the events of the novel..." and says "this edition represents the text as the author envisioned it."
The Cemetery Dance edition includes "many deleted scenes that were cut from the original manuscript" and "the short stories 'Jerusalem's Lot' and 'One for the Road'..."
Questions:
- Does the extra material vary at all between editions?
- Is the main text of the novel altered at all in any of the editions, or is the additional text simply presented outside (that is, before or after) the text of the novel? The Doubleday mention of "material that has since been modified by King" and description of their edition as representing "the text as the author envisioned it" make me wonder about this.
(FYI: I'm not concerned about the two short stories - I have them in multiple copies of Night Shift as well as the CD Salem's Lot - unless they differ in some way).
In the village all the children running home
- they sing hymns that haunt them when they're all alone.
New and interesting signed King item I just received - The Seventh World Fantasy Convention Reader. I'm not sure how rare it is to find a King signature in this limited edition but I've only ever seen a few and this one is very unique. I would love to know if anyone else has a copy where he's written his address.
Wanted: Human skin edition of The Book of the Dead. Will accept PC copy.
Definitely unusual and cool, congratulations !

This one I offered $150 and the seller accepted. I'm happy for it. It's signed by Mellencamp, King and TBone.

I recieved a second rare french press copy of "Bag of bones" today
I am quite happy with it given its rarity, but something intrigues me : it is slightly different from my prevous copy.
One copy has something printed on the book spine, this new copy doesnt have anything on the book spine.
Which makes me wonder how book spines are dealt with : isn't it just the same one sheet of paper, then folded and "glued"/pressed or whatever on the front?
Or are the bookspines "printed" afterwards?
Which would seem odd to me

Both of my french review copies of "Bag of bones", reprinting a letter by King
The spine from the new copy I recieved yesterday
Compared to the other copy ("Sac d'os" : on the left is the other review copy, on the right the 'normal' book)
So I wonder how "spines" are dealt with in the printing process?
Surely it's an entire printed "page", no?
In the case of both my review copies, all the printing infos are the same inside the book
So they definitely looks like they were printed at the same place at the same time. Somehow

That'd be awesome! At this stage, I don't even care if it's an amateur filming. I'd LOVE to watch it.
