Matt, I think you will like some of those Lumet films you listed above.

Also, I think it's time to add Ben Affleck to my personal list.

    You don't think that's a bit premature?

I'll need to see Argo before I can make any kind of verdict on him in general. I liked Gone Baby Gone well enough, but The Town bored me to tears.

Really? I thought the Town was great though the love angle did drag a little at times.

Matt had Ben Stiller on his list, so you tell me. The Town was great, but I'm pretty sure we already agreed to disagree on that one.

I still need to watch Argo, but I'm ready to add him to my list. I think he's an amazing director, and can't wait to see what he does next.

Well, there were rumors a while back that he was going to direct The Stand franchise. Not sure what the status is of that.

    Default Favorite Directors

I know King loves the David's. I do too. Crone berg and Lynch. Lynch might be my all time favorite although he is purposely inaccessible to the average movie goer. Especially his later works when the studio couldn't dictate his vision ie.. Inland Empire. I digress though who else do people like?

We can go back to great movies like "A Thousand Clowns" ( Rohbards is awesome in it check you tube). Or 90's guys like like Paul Thomas Anderson or Wes Anderson.

What of DePalma? Since it is a king forum we can talk "Carrie" but his other works too. Like "The Phantom of The Paradise". Death Records was cool. Maybe cheesy but cool.

Let's discuss. Who do you love? Tyler Perry? Brunell? Dali? It is all interesting to me.

For me personally, it's a two-man race between Hitchcock and Spielberg for the top spot. But I like other ones, too: Kubrick, Tarantino, the Coens, Fincher, Scorsese. Gilliam; Woody Allen. I love John Carpenter (I even like most of the movies by him that many people hate).

I've never much cared for DePalma, though. He's made good movies, but to me they always seem good in spite of what he brings to them, not because of. I know his fans are a passionate bunch, but none of that passion has ever rubbed off onto me, sadly. (I'm sure a lot of people would say the same about John Carpenter, though, so I can sort of get why somebody would be a big DePalma fan. Just not me.)

Where is Linklater? Arnofsky? Sure Requim is overrated for its time but The Wrestler and Black Swan put him on that list. Eastwood belongs on the list but not that high. I'm going to throw up in my mouth and say this but what about Affleck? George Lucas doesn't get a sniff? Really? No one will argue that post Jedi he did much good but he changed film. I was glad to see Bunel on there. Actually lists like this are meant to fuel discussions.

Both very solid lists. The one that jumps out at me is Albert Brooks at #9 on Skyofcrack's list.

Hasn't he only made like 5 films? I've never thought about him as a great director. I know some of his earlier films deal with a character that is in some way involved with filmmaking, so I've been meaning to check them out. I like that kind of stuff.
