Hey there Bob!!!! Long time no see. I'm a big Allen K fan, love the "old school" feel of his illustrations and I'm impressed with just HOW MUCH he's produced over the decades. I have several of his originals and I'm always buying more from him.

You have got to be kidding me.

Well, when a signing tour is announced (rumored), whoever buys this should be able to get another one about $850 less!

Always good to be the first one out of the gate - when jk Rowlings signed uk book came out 2 months ago - the first one sold on eBay for over 4K - no one had any idea if there'd be more - there were, and now they hang around $600-800 for the uk - I'd hate to be that person who dropped $4K first. Although as Bev mentioned this would be tougher to find
There are rumblings of a signing for this book..... I would be VERY hesitant to pay the money... But Bob is bang... charity can play a big role...

I am one of the bidders on the auction discussed above. There's not a need for anyone to defend a bid even when it appears on the surface to be outlandish. However, I'm going to do just that...while acknowledging my huge mistake when I first bid and then right now.
There are only a couple of legitimate signed BOBD in existence today. There certainly might be more in the future but there is no plan for a signing for this book -- rumors notwithstanding. So I believe that the number of legit signed copies will be limited. I also feel like it must a serious need for the recipient of the proceeds for SK to sign the copy (legibly even) and make it available for auction. Lastly, how many signed SK books come with a COA from his inner administrative circle? I've not seen one before. For the above reasons, I can justify the premium I bid on the auction.
Now, I was so shortsighted when I made my bid. All my bid did was encourage the other bidder to keep "upping" the bids until he/she had the highest bid. I know what was paid for the other signed books and thought my bid was something special. NOT! I should have patiently waited until Sunday to make a bid. But I just had to invite the "Stupid Stick" to hit me in the mouth then and maybe now. I will watch the auction going forward but I'm not sure if I will bid again. I hope that the person in need is helped with the proceeds from the auction and that his predicament is only temporary.
John
Alan,
That is a possibility. However, unless the unscrupulous person deals directly with an unwitting buyer, advertising the fraud on eBay would take a lot of balls. The COA is unique so every TDT member would flag it and notify eBay. I don't see them ignoring such a highly-visible fraud. Maybe I'm being too naïve but everyone here would love to crush any POS who would try that. And I would hope that the winner "protects" his/her purchase by not letting a POS get away with such a fraud.
John
If this auction is a fraud, I agree that it's a pretty ballsy move on the seller's part. Also, does anyone feel that some of the bids look suspicious.

It could easily be a fraud in the sense that there could be shill biding going on.

I'd be surprised if there will be fraudulent bidding going on. This volume is being sold to benefit a specific individual who is very active on the SKMB. There is also a fund-me page set up for him.
I think there will eventually be a small number of legitimate signed trades being out there. I think there will be fewer than the signed Mr. Mercedes, though. Given this, it's very possible that the current price may accurately reflect the value.

Felt pen signatures are so tough to judge:
Stephen King Autographed Bobble Head
It is a "charity" type of sale, so any value obtained is genuine and deserved, "at that time".
I've been to dozens of "Black Tie" events and paid thousands for items with almost no monetory value later.
Well, this seems like a good time to mention that this years' "Grand Prize" for the Haven Fund could very well be a signed copy of BOBD!!!! $10 will get you a drawing entry!!!

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
