Appreciate all of the well wishes - back in the house - brought books back. But realized need a better procedure for quick evacuation. The yeti for books not the best option but worked in a pinch. Will instead get storage bin (ideally with wheels) with bubble wrap stored inside - so I can safely line up the books and it is ready to go. Also I would advise that you place all of your "GO books" on the same or nearby shelf - so it is easier to get to in emergency and you are not running around. These books will be on two shelves next to each other once I reorganize. And remember - books are very heavy so stack your books and see what you can realistically lift/carry/wheel to the car. Lessons learned.

Luggage with spare bubble wrap works. A large roller will hold 50 lbs. of books. Best to have plenty of the large bubble wrap. Clothes can be tossed in double bagged large 55 gallon bags. Don't fret about wrinkles in clothes. Birth certificates, social security cards, passports, homeowner deeds, vehicle titles, and registration copies, etc. should be stored in a safe deposit box in a bank that is NOT in a rural area.
One should scan, in high resolution, full color images of their Passport, Drivers License, Social Security Card, Medical Cards, front and back of all credit cards, and email the images to yourself.
Agreed, although emails may or may not be the safest option, in case of being compromised and risking identity theft. But there should be backups. And it may not be easiest way, but I would recommend be careful in the naming of files. Having something that clearly sayd "id card" would be easier to find and therefore more likely to get stolen if things got compromised
Dropbox just released a "vault" option, to store those kind of documents

For now he and his home are safe. Unfortunately, people he knows well have lost their homes. I'd imagine it's bittersweet if not plain depressing to know you are OK, but others close to you are devastated.
HANG IN THERE, RACER!!! THIS TOO SHALL PASS JUST KEEP THE FAMILY SAFE AND ALIVE AND EVERTHING ELSE WILL WORK OUT!!!

I’m glad you’re doing ok, Steve. Hope you get to go home sooner rather than later. So sorry to hear about your friends.

I wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes, thoughts and prayers. I am back at home but with mixed emotions. My home was spared from damage and I am waiting for the event to be over so I can begin the clean-up of debris, which is still accumulating.
I told Jerome, Chad and Patrick in a text that I won’t play the “what would you take game” as I have done it already in 2017, packed by didn’t leave in 2019, and now have done it again in 2020. Now that I am home, and hopefully for some therapy, I will post what I did take, but I’m playing by my rules and not following the 3 items or less.
Here are two photos (see spoiler for details)
Spoiler:
If anyone is interested in some of the grim details of the fire see the spoiler below.

I am sorry - I have to disagree - regarding the beauty in those photos. those are down right scary. having been evacuated, having fire destroy homes less than a mile from mine - those photos are down right scary. honestly. - you never want to stay or stop near an active fire to capture photos. just my 2 cents...

I find no solace in the "beauty" of fire that resulted in tragedy. Perhaps at a later time when sensitivity has reduced a bit.
