    Ned did the piece as an Homage to Michael Whelan.

    It is painted. Not sure what kind of paint, but it has "texture"; it's not just pencil.

    I spoke with, Ned regarding the "medium" employed here and pardon my non-artistic language, but as close as I can relate this piece is a "Mixed Medium" comprised of Chalk, Ink, Graphite, plaster dust, glue and paint all sealed by a fixer to prevent any "bleeding" what so ever. A truly amazing piece, by an amazing artist!!!
