interconnected doesn't render them ineligible. Nominate something, and we'll see.

E.A.Poe, on the other hand, much as I love him, never wrote anything long enough to be a novel (unless I missed something)

the trouble with H.P. Lovecraft tales is that a lot of them now are packaged as for example At The Mountains of Madness and other novels and i have virtually all of his tales in two hardback anthologies

I got told by the editor of Hard Case Crime that a novel is (at least very close to) 50,000 words. If they do sell them as lone books, they're still not novels. If series books are not allowed in the contest, then I don't believe shorter works should be considered for this contest.

Maybe we just should have done top authors.

Picture of Dorian Gray is a good novel, but not a great one; Oscar Wilde just did such memorable work with other forms. Hound of the Baskervilles is not IMO the really greatest Holmes story, though I'd rate it, too, "good" as a novel. (Or a novella.)
Only two examples of a possible trend in some of these nominations.
    Just sayin'.
I didn't expect all the complications.

    wiki says it's a novel

whenever it says so, we accept the book, however long or short it seems to us

so, is Arthur Gordon Pym nominated?

Definitely a novella, while technically long enough to be a novel. It's not just the length but also author intent. King has always referred to these stories as novellas.
