So, I've decided to start a little King sub-collection (as if there isn't enough to collect as it is) of UK paperback 1st/1st's. They're relatively inexpensive (the 2 pictured below were 0.99p each) and it's quite good fun tracking them down! Should keep me and my internet connection busy anyway
My first two:
When you get to Roadwork, give me a shout. I have a very nice 1st/1st available

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
I HATE PAPERBACKS!!!!

I love paperbacks...
Spoiler:
Now let's hear your story Bill.
And Mr. Policeman, if you find an extra copy of the first UK paperback printing of THE SHINING, I need one!
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.

Another UK paperback for the new, wee sub - collection:
I love paperbacks too. The UK 1st printing PB of 'Salem's Lot is the hardest one to find, without a doubt. It's NOT this one although many people think it is:
There's an earlier version that has the same cover art as the trade hardcover but with slightly different colours. I used to own a copy but sold it along with my other UK editions. It now resides in Bob's collection (he did not have a copy). A UK collector I used to talk to a lot has virtually every UK paperback edition ever published, but he does not have that one either. I got it off Abe Books a couple of years ago for $75.
Anyway. Right now the only UK 1st printing paperback I still own is Carrie. Looking forward to seeing your PB collection grow!
Thanks Michaël.
I did not know that about the UK paperback of 'Salem's Lot. I assumed the version you pictured above was the 1st edition! That's one of the many things I love about this website. You literally do learn new things on a regular basis!
By the way - if you're ever considering selling that UK Carrie, give me a shout. Thanks!
Bob has posted a pic of it here: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...l=1#post779910
If you scroll up from that post you will find a nice discussion about UK 1st printing paperbacks.
*edit: it starts here: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...l=1#post779664
Great! Thanks Michaël. Never saw that Shining cover Bob posted before either!
Nice NIGHT SHIFT. I don't have that one, but I do have a 'SALEM'S LOT, but not in great shape.

If you can find them for reasonable prices (I know, whatever that means), sure! I was buying my first UK King paperbacks from Kenneth F. Slater for a long time. He never did master the art of proper packaging though, so the books on the outside of the bundles were usually damaged. Unfortunately he passed away. I miss his strange invoices. I still have all the correspondence from him though.
