Default Who created the Dark Tower

My friend asked me this question since I suggested that she read the DT series. She's on book 3 and wanted to know. I didn't know!! I know I'm a bad DT fan lol! I honestly do not know. Was it Gan? Someone or something had to created it right? It didn't create itself did it? I was looking to see if this was asked and I couldn't find it. TIA!

The tower is Gan. It's his avatar, his metaphysical presence in 'our' world.

So it's safe to say that Gan also created the beams that lead to the DT to keep it safe and all the worlds safe?!

Oh, I didn't intend my answer at all in a mean way. It's just my interpretation.

I'd like to thank Gan for his lack of personal hygiene skills. If he had showered more often and taken the time to clean his belly button then none of us would be here right now.

My interpretation would be more like "asking who created the tower is like asking who created the church." In the comics, it's confirmed that Gan and the Dark Tower are one and that Gan is like literally God and definitely exists in a real way. Based strictly on the novels alone, though, I'd say that all these questions are left somewhat open and mysterious. Is Roland in fact approaching the truth about life and its meaning or just chasing his own dreams and the myths of his people?

Sometimes I can answer just with a question.
So I would have asked back: Who created our world, our university?

    Roland would have understood.

But the Great Old One's had some involvement, right? They created the stations at the ends of the beams and the beam guardians, right? ...as part of their magic/technology mingling that eventually led to whatever destroyed Roland's world.

The Great Old Ones didn't trust in magic. When the prim receded, magic started to go with it, so they panicked and started replacing magic with technology, or finding ways to blend the two together. There was enough magic to support the beams and the tower forever, but they messed it all up and created something that was doomed to run down and fail eventually.

Thanks, Ben Vincent. It's been a while since I've read the last couple of books that explain this better. I'm on my second read through of the whole serious and 3rd time on Drawing of the Three and I seem to remember a lot of the early glimpses we get of the Great Old Ones, such as the first station they come upon in Wastelands with Shardik, who was built by NCP. I also haven't read the comics yet, but they're on my list. You get a much greater sense that NCP has more to do with the beams, the stations, and the guardians than magic in the earlier novels (at least I did).

So, it's more as if they were supporting the existing magical nature of the beams and tower with technology and of course technology will inevitably fail.
