Vote For Top-100 Science Fiction, Fantasy Titles (including The Stand & Dark Tower)

Last month we asked you, our audience, to nominate titles for a top-100 list of the best science fiction and fantasy ever written. The response was overwhelming — almost 5,000 of you posted to the NPR site alone, and many thousands more offered suggestions on Facebook.

We've tabulated those suggestions and, with the help of an expert panel, narrowed the list to a manageable field of a few hundred titles.

Scrolling through the list of great science fiction and fantasy reads below will feel like a journey back in time for some of us, a voyage of discovery for others. But novice or veteran, everyone loves a contest. So, let the voting begin!

Here's how: Everyone gets 10 votes. Select your top 10 favorite titles, and then scroll down to the bottom of the poll and click "Submit." Feel free to lobby for your favorites in the comments. We'll be back in about 10 days with the results.

Quite a list, which includes King's The Eyes of the Dragon, The Stand, and The Dark Tower series. I know how we all like voting So have at it.

King appears six times in the top 45, with The Dead Zone (#45), Pet Sematary (#44), 'Salem's Lot (#37), It (#22), The Stand (#12), and The Shining (#7).

The Dark Tower series makes it all the way to #23! The Stand is not far behind at #25. Looks like The Eyes of the Dragon did not make it, understandably.

In a way I'm surprised that The Stand is under The Dark Tower. While I think I prefer the latter, I'd have thought the former more widely read. On the other hand it's a fantasy/sci-fi poll, and while both are fantasies of a kind The Dark Tower fits that genre mould that little bit better. (Mind you The Stand's would fit Post Apocalyptic which is a staple of Sci-fi, albeit there's a strong horror/fantasy element too.)

Oh, shame on you, Jerome. I would say I've read most on the list. 65% maybe? Gotta get down with some Sci-fi and Fantasy, my brother from another mother!!!!!!!
