There has been one bad review of 11.22.63 in the UK Guardian. I really liked the book. I don't think it quite measures up to It and The Stand, but it IS way up there.

I am a Dark Tower fan, and I have only read a handful of other Stephen King book. So I bought a 4-in-1 omnibus with The Shining, Salem's Lot, Night Shift, and Carrie. I read Carrie, and enjoyed it quite a bit. The characterization was very good; I was surprised at how deep Carrie herself was. It was also funny to see some Stephen King trademarks
(paranthetical remarks)
in his very first book.

Next, I am reading The Shining, which I know almost next to nothing about. So far, so good. The other night I caught the beginning (ten minutes or so) of Kubrick's movie on AMC and I already prefer the book.

After seeing The Shining so many times over the years before ever reading the book, I was blown away at just how different the book was. I didn't expect it to be so powerful after already experiencing the movie. One of King's best in my opinion.

I really need to get 11/22/63. I wanted to read it when I first heard about it, but after reading everyone's comments on it...now I really want it. I'm seriously craving a strong addiction to a book right now. It's been a while since I've had that "can't put it down" feeling.

I finished up the new SK and now I am reading The Hunger Games, because I have been meaning to get to it and never did. Seeing the movie trailer reminded me. Plus, I'm a big fan of Appalachian protagonists.

Yes! One of the few books as a kid that I read in 2 days! And yet, surprisingly, I've yet to read any books after the 2nd. I must really sort that out, as I remember really loving the quirky new take on fantasy that Colfer gave us.

I like it, too but I don't like Artemis at all. I hope I will get to like him later.

I think you will. The first book, he is essentially the villain of the piece, but as time goes on, he does indeed grow as a character. Which, now that I think about it, is just another reason for me to get round to reading all the other books in the series. Ugh! Too many books to read and not enough time!

I think another thing to take into consideration of why I loved the first book so much the first time I read it is because I was 12 years old at the time, and there was something really refreshing about the idea of a 12 year old criminal mastermind, instead of the usual typical "12 year old with a destiny" or blatant copies of Harry Potter that seemed to be aimed at younger readers a lot of the time.

Moorcock's imagination is wild. Elric and some other gentlemen who seems to be stereotypical of the modern emo are trying to out angst one another. Hilarious.

Yes. I thought about that same question quite a bit whilst reading it. Truth be told I last read it over thirty years ago. I was trying to ID the new material and found that very difficult. I think I pegged the additional character and Id'ed maybe one added "dream sequence", but that was it. Still a great and scary book though!!!!

I'm currently rereading Bag of Bones, getting ready for the miniseries.

A re-read of Bag of Bones. I read it when it first came out and though I don't recall all the particulars of the plot I do remember thinking it was a very good book and how much I enjoyed it.

I've read the first 75 pages or so and continue to be amazed at just how well King can write. So far it's basically one guy alone with his thoughts and King captures it perfectly. There are some passages of pure mastery of the language and turns of phrase. After only 75 pages I feel like I know Mike Noonan intimately via King's characterization. I'm looking forward to continuing with this re-read.

I finished it last week. Also in preparation for the mini-series. I hope the TV show is at least half as good as the book.

Edit: Oh, and Kinderman is still the "Best"!!!! LOL That's why I love "Legion" as well!!! In my mind its a two part book as CD did it. The Exorcist/Legion!!

I DO want that version. My nicest copy is a much abused first paperback. I last read it a few years back. I've read it many many times though. I'd have to read them back to back for a comparison. I've got the memory of someone twice my age.
