Congrats RF! With the dinged numbered copies, I'm still curious what the buyers of the non-dinged copies received. Was the count increased above 750? Did they get PC copies?
Mine was #717.
I don't feel like starting and maintaining one of those "..What # do you have?" threads. But if someone gets a #>750 that would be interesting.

I agree, no need for a thread. I was just very surprised when it was announced that the dinged copies were still going to part of the original numbering.

For chronological order, I'd put it right after the original Stand and before Firestarter. The book was published originally in 1979. I'm not sure when the Easton edition was published.

Interesting. Can you provide details as to what it all is? Looks like some good manuscript material and maybe some loose long galley pages? Originals vs. photocopies? Hand corrections original vs. photocopied? Whatever it all adds up to it looks like a nice score. Congratulations!

I would not put it with the other king 1st edition 1st printings. I would put it with my limited editions - either gift editions or with the s/l (only because Tomas has it on his US s/l page.

i like to break mine up by categories.

US 1st 1st flatsigned - 55!
US 1st 1st (unsigned) - 13 :(
UK 1st 1st
US S/l
UK S/l
Us gift editions

When I found these I did not study them in too much detail. I knew I wanted them yet did not want to act too excited before agreeing on price;
As I review them today I see all of these show a lot of age; I have two early states of Misery. The typewritten sheets and the Galley (neat to find together).
The typed sheets must be copies as there are some notes that are not clear on them. It is interesting as there are cross-outs, corrections, etc.
There is a couple pages handwritten; in the middle of typed sheet 351 Chapter 37 starts in script running thru to page 353 and then the typed story starts again.
The Galley copy of Misery might be original or a copy. It appears to have some notes on these sheets however I can not ascertain if they just appear better on this copy. only finding black pen, pencil or marker marks.

The Gerald's Game and the Four Past Midnight galleys appear to have marks on them as well in different pens however I can not conclude that they are not just very good copies with some marking on front pages.

Whatever they are; they are older interesting pieces and a set I thought were worth owning.

However the Easton Press edition was published in 1993, but I'm not sure if I should put it before or after N&D.

1st Trade Edition of The Dark Man

Many thought this an odd choice to bring to Toronto to be signed...but I have never seen a signed trade of this title, and I like having something unique (although I did see another guy holding one of these in the signing line...so I know there is at least one other signed copy out there...but probably not many).

And since I was able to get signed first editions of the other two King books that came out this year (Joyland and Doctor Sleep), it seemed like a no-brainer to go for the 2013 trifecta.

Okay - so this one is not King related and I have not seen this on the site. This is my holy grail - and helps complete my childhood trilogy of the best Sunday comic writers - to go along with Bloom County and Farside. But Calvin and Hobbes was always my favorite:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/Watterson/IMG_2336_zps8ba02fda.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/Watterson/IMG_2336_zps8ba02fda.jpg.html)

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/Watterson/IMG_2338_zpsc37ddc3c.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/Watterson/IMG_2338_zpsc37ddc3c.jpg.html)

According to Chris Sparks - who runs Team Cul de Sac - which raises money for Parkinson's disease - Bill only signed 5 of these for their charity auction - and he has never signed any other copies of the Complete Calvin and Hobbes. Now I get to read a new Sunday strip from Richard Thompson - author of Cul de sac. Watterson notes that he is one of his favorite contemporary comic artists - and the two of them will be having a dual art show at Ohio State University from March-June 2014 (I really want to get out there). Mr. Thompson has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease - hence why his involvement and Bill's signing items for their charity. Recently many artists compiled strips to put together a tribute book for Mr. Thompson - Bill only signed 10 of these for the charity - here is one:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/Watterson/IMG_2339_zpsa727161a.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/chadtarter/media/Watterson/IMG_2339_zpsa727161a.jpg.html)

I was hoping Under the Dome would look more like the pic they first had posted at amazon other than that it looks pretty good.
Is this the first time CD has ever shrink-wrapped a book?

The Dark Man Slipcases Edition was shrink-wrapped as well. We thought we'd try it this year and see how everyone felt about the idea. There are pros and cons for sure.

If it is an added expense, I say lose the shrink wrap. If not, it doesn't matter to me at all. FWIW

It definitely is more expensive for production (lots of hand-work involved at the printer), which is why we're looking at all of the feedback we get! If most folks like it, we'll make sure we can keep doing it for future books of this nature. If it doesn't matter or people hate it, that's okay, too. :)

I'm with Bill. I get rid of the shrink wrap as soon as I receive the book. The only exceptions are some of the UK editions that have additional stuff attached to the shrink wrap. I then slit the wrap to check out the book.

I've seen that one! it is indeed very handsome/affordable.
I'd like to finish collecting my trade 1st editions before purchasing it.
I only need about 10 more! (not including the early Doubleday books or the Gunslinger/Drawing of The Three, I'll never be able to afford those lol)
Perhaps when I win the lottery

Hey Groomp, I may be able to help you out with a DoTT Grant 1st. I just bought an artist signed copy from another forum member and I really don't have the space for multiple copies (unlike some of the collectors here!). The book is still in its original wrapping as received from Grant, the only flaw is that the dust cover has been slightly misaligned so its about 5mm off-centre when looking at the spine. PM me if interested and we can discuss a price.

I got mine today as well. I held off reading DR. SLEEP until I could read it in this Gift Edition form, so am looking forward to finally reading the book.

So not only do I, yes, take off and dispose of the shrinkwrap, but I also (carefully) read my signed/limited HCs (unless I've already read the work in another form, e.g. a trade edition). Books are meant to be read, to be touched and experienced and enjoyed, to appreciate their soul and wordplay music, to be displayed -- not looked at once and tucked away in a box or closet like Grandma's fine silver, sterile with shrinkwrap intact, never to see the light of day or a set of eyes again.

Looking forward to the review of the Matheson work. My reaction to Matheson's trunk work, starting with HUNGER AND THIRST, has been largely negative (though I've still yet to read GENERATIONS), so am curious if this new one follows that unfortunate trend or not.

Yep, got my gift edition today and promptly ripped off the shrinkwrap and got the mailing notice for the S/L. Can't wait.
Also have gotten in pretty much what everyone else has (hate that last E on Under the Dome - thought for a while mine was just screwed up). But I can't get myself to unwrap "S". It looks like the tape would have to be broken to remove from slipcase?

And also on the porch Dust. Glad Goldboro wraps well.

I think 999 was the first S/L book I ever bought. I was in awe of the production standards (high quality binding, gilt, the little ribbon!). Hell it might have been the first book I ever bought that came with a slipcase. It holds a special place in my heart and I would LOVE to get both King and Oates to fill in those conspicuous blanks.

You HAVE to unwrap S. The book is so cool inside with all of the extras included. I can't wait to read it. The S. label is perforated on one side so you just need to split at the dotted line and the book comes out. The label will stay attached to the slipcase.

Nice one, Rick!!

A few people were discussing the pricing of a 2nd state 'Salem's Lot in another thread so I'll reiterate my favorite awesome deal, just for fun. I assembled the 2nd state copy pictured below for the grand total of $142. The exquisite 2nd state DJ came from a later printing book (Q41 gutter code, probably the first reprint after the 1st/1st), which I purchased for $42. I then married it to a DJ-less 1st/1st book that I got for $100.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite books.

My start into collecting signed King books was a fluke.. I wanted to complete my hardcover collection.. ( I have 1st/1st's from about mid 90's up) but stumbled on a older fellow who ended up giving me a matching set (other than DK 1 and 2) right through for $3800. All fine and the Gunslinger is near fine 1st/1st as in the Drawing...still looking for 576 in Drawing of the Three but it may happen someday. I thought that was a great deal. I had a book dealer offer me $7500 right after I bought it. So I am pretty happy with that. I also have a lot of older 1st's that are not in great shape I picked up for $25 bucks at a yard sale that are worth a lot more than that:)

A few weeks back I picked up a fine in near fine (bright but some rubbing at the corners) copy of Cycle Of The Werewolf for $80. I also picked up a first state near fine Hunt For Red October for 50 cents, this is my second copy I have acquired the 2 of them for the whopping total of 75 cents. This one had a name and date, 1984, on the front end paper. Knowing that these books were originally Naval Accadamy text books, I decided to look the name up. It turns out the guy was an Aeronautical engineer and Vice President at McDonnell Douglas where he designed the Harpoon Missle system for USN Submarines. Kinda cool he could have provided Clancy technical information.

Yes, Tomas is not doing a slipcase because SP decided to do one of their own. Maybe he mistyped.

OK, here we go........

I recently acquired a complete, matching #'d set of the DT Series (#415) with a FULL PAGE COLOR REMARQUE in the Gunslinger.

To my knowledge, this is only 1 of 5 remarqued S/L 'Slingers done by Michael Whelan with the other 4 being owned by David @ Betts.

While the remarqued S/L may not appeal to all, I consider this to be the new "holy grail" of my collection. Thanks for looking! AKC

Not to be contrary, but is that a good idea? I'm not sure how/if a remarque enhances the value of an s/l edition as unique as that one. It's almost rare enough as it is?

I dunno...I'm not even sure I believe that myself. But I guess I feel like some editions are better left as-is. I'd feel the same about having SK sign it a second time.

On the other hand, as strictly a personally-owned book, it's clearly a great addition. From that respect it's hard to top.

(my 2000th post!)

Joe315

IMHO, I think value is added because whelan is the artist of the book. If someone else remarqued it, than I don't think anything would be added to the value money wise. Sentimental value might increase, however.

Robert Fulman

If someone said to me "here is $5,000, you must buy a Gunslinger S/L with it," then that is the one I would want to buy. Therefore I would say that the Remarque enhances the value.

I agree. With regard to other S/L books a remarque may be debatable, IMHO, but with, Whelan I am not so sure. He is so difficult to get to do something like this that I think it would greatly increase the overall value in the end. A truly
unique item to be treasured.

Also...could you guys give me your assessment of the condition. Unread copy of Rage....along with what you would feel comfortable paying for this book. (NOT SELLING).

I would rate that as VG+ (Very Good Plus). If it had spine creases, I'd knock it down to VG due to the fold and crease on the front and the considerable edgewear, but the clean spine helps buttress its rating. I buy quite a few paperbacks (I have a subset collection of '50s/'60s vintage noir pbos (paperbacks originals)), so have a pretty good sense of condition ratings for pbs. I certainly wouldn't rate it as "unread" (i.e. Fine or Very Fine) and if that's the condition it was sold to you as (if I read your post correctly), I would say the seller was being deceitful. The value of this one, though, I've no idea, as I don't collect King pbs.

For comparison, here's an example of a UK 1st pb of RAGE that's appropriately and correctly rated as Fine:

A few things that I haven't posted yet. First is Doctor Sleep S/L. It is the more rare version containing no remarques. I didn't take detailed photos since there are so many on here already, but it is an impressive book.
http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q542/DanielLRoth/979713f35755bfd8e209ea66ae350c96.jpg

Next is Joe Hill's The Cape Deluxe Edition. It is flat signed by the co-author Jason Ciaramella. I obtained it from him for significantly lower than issue price. It is a very large book.

http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q542/DanielLRoth/306195b7b7bf854c9d7d756434f88c95.jpg

A couple new Richard Matheson lettered editions. Passion Play produced by CD. It included the hot foil stamp used on the spine.

Camp Pleasant by Richard Matheson. Lettered Edition by CD. Yes, that is dust. The traycase was less than stellar. Unfortunately CD doesn't have any spares. I will try to clean it up as best I can.

And last, but not least, a flat signed Joyland and slipcase. This plus Doctor Sleep puts me at 12 signatures.

At the end of the promotion bookreading event 20.11.13 for Stephen King´s

German Doctor Sleep...

I´am a loooooooser baby (Funny, i only know losers... arround 20-25

Most of the normal white wristband people gone home...

BUT..
i told 2 friends that at several bookreading events i was, at the end there are still some signed books....

We wait for 15+++ min. then the man from the booksellling table asked if in the line,.... 20 people is still someone with a grey wristband.......
NOBODY.... we 3 from the German SK Forum jumped in the line.... they start to sell the rest of the signed books...
waiting.. thinking..... hoping... PLEASE..... PLEASE... PLEASE...

Then, finaly .... we all 3 get our

#109 just ended on eBay yesterday:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doctor-Sleep-Stephen-King-Hodder-Stoughton-2013-Uncorrected-Proof-copy-/251382464268?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=%252FNj95%252FhQx7UsdaiVFkpJwN5G7Dc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

That makes about four!

Jeremy

Yep. My name onto it, and SIGNED now :)
I think that Ari also has one.

I think that everybody that has one will agree that its design is pretty nice!

The lettered IT is gorgeous. Congrats AKC.

I had this custom made to house Long Walk inscribed to Jim Bishop and Rage inscribed to me. Some day I hope to have Roadwork and Running Man also signed - preferably inscribed to me tho that might have been a once in a lifetime thing.

AKC: Very, very nice -- glad to see your search for a deluxe edition of IT turned out so well! And unlike some Craig's List sellers we know, I bet you don't even have to wear white gloves to handle it! ;-)

Ssigned french edition of THE RUNNING MAN. Signed in 1990 (and not at the recent signing in Paris).
CHERRY ON TOP : it's not only a french edition, but a first french edition.

HOW TO TOP THAT? it's a REVIEW COPY. cf the punched holes on the back, forming the letters : SP, for "Service Presse", so a review copy.
The other only review copy with those SP that i have is the very first french edition of CARRIE which i got signed in Paris.

Here is one wall in my collection room.
I had to install these cases and tether them to the wall-California-earthquake country. Nothing fancy about the cases-spent the money on books. Mostly these hold my trades, and a few other items.

That is one nice wall brotha!

This looks more like a candy store than a book collection - what a whore! A lovely whore! Brilliant!
