Terry, when are you going to take it for a spin.. out to California?

i would, but....
the gas tank didn't grow (still an 11 gallon tank) - but the motor tripled in size.
I went from 32 MPG with the 4 banger to 10-11 MPG with the V8

I can just about make it to the end of the block before needing a fillup.
might take a while to get to cali.

Well my new P&J is not a shiny sportscar nor is it snazzy original art, BUT it is important to me and my collecting goals.

A long time ago I decided that getting all the S/Ls was way out of reach and that any item I got was just a bonus to my collection. What I decided I really wanted to complete was a total First Edition Collection. I am almost there. As far as King Written all I need is a 1st Edition Salem's Lot - I am just not prepared to pay the current going price!

Also I do not have the first 4 Bachman paperbacks. Well now I have one of them. It may not be in the best condition but suitable for me and at a teriffic price in my opinion. I got this for $12.

No I requested that scene and He found a way to do it different than Michael Whelans and the commission I had done by Alan M Clark and it is my favorite of the 3 paintings. Zach is big DT fan and was very nervous about doing the scene justice but I think it's perfect.

So, after the discussion in my collection thread about this book I thought that maybe I may have been too harsh in my decision. So after mulling it over serendipity showed its face and I came across an amazing opportunity to obtain the item in question for what I feel was an incredible deal. So thanks to Jerome and co. for lighting the fire.

So, with that being said, here's my latest P&J:

Again, J, I can't believe the huge delays in France to publish the books. Horns it was published in spanish almost a year ago. Isn't a way to complain to the publishers in order to speed up things a little?

herbertwest

I dont think that i mentionned it : a few years back i've found the only french limited book (the green mile 1, with a fac simile of Stephen King's signature : only 300 copies) at 0,90€. It did cost me about 4€ including the shipping.

Back at the time i did recently found about this book and was hunting for it. I've found an offer saying that it had the signature, and the guy was asking 0,90€ for it... because the book (normal edition) is pretty common
I couldnt believe that the seller did know that the book had a signature and was only asking this price. i guess that he noticed all the other items for sale (about 200) and then realised it would never sell...

Later on i found other copies, and the price were way more expensive! 200€ for instance.

herbertwest
07-09-2011, 01:53 PM
Yeah i know... here in France, the publisher waits for the book to be actually published before starting the translation.
Then it requires the translating time, the producing... so...

DOME came out in march... FDNS is being translated just now, and i think that it will go on sale in march...

I first saw the illustration when CD announced the book, it was one of the sample images from the book. As soon as I saw it, I found and contacted Ms. Erin Wells to try and buy the original immediately, but she said she wanted to give everyone a fair share at her art, which I respect completely. I love it love it love it. :)

I'm running out of wall space! My living room is pretty rectangular, with one side full of movie shelves, another side full of bookshelves, another side is two large windows and the last side is where my TV and counter leading into the kitchen are. I have this Erin Wells art on the way now, and I have two more original art pieces on their way eventually (lol), bringing my total SK art up to four. Where the hell am I going to put them!? I would love an area like Bob's (carlosdetweiller) ... JUST books and art. One day.

Hmmmm, maybe if I kick my roommate out, I can put all my Stephen King stuff in her room. That's not a bad idea, actually, lol.

Thanks everybody ... Framing-wise ... I don't know. There might or might not be one more illustration from Erin Wells that I want, lol, and if I win that one, it will pair very nicely with this one, so I would do a double frame-type thing. I don't know anything about framing. But I should ... I anticipate lots of original drawings/paintings in my future. :) I like the fact that they are truly unique. You know what I mean? A real one of one.

Jerome, love the book. It's massive (that's what she said).

I think that framing more than one larger original (>~5"x7") could prove to be a "challenge". I'd love to see it done, but it seems to me that larger pieces should stand on their own. They could certainly be grouped together on a wall.

Think so? I zoom in and I cant tell where the "g" ends and the number begins. It does look like that can be a line crossing the number making it a 7

Definitely a seven. I think I want a collection of inscribed books ... Doesn't even matter if they are firsts, as long as each book is inscribed to a different name and it's not just ... "To Tom, Stephen King". I want some words in the middle.

So far, I want a collection of first editions, a collection of flatsigned first editions, and now a collection of inscribed books. Throw in S/L (numbered), proofs, gift edition, artist editions, and that's a lot of the same title, lol. That's not even including foreign editions, which are sometimes soooo pretty, lol.

Garrell, nice addition. :) When I was buying books like crazy, a lot of people asked me why I wasn't buying the Doubleday firsts ... It's because most of the time they are very expensive. And in my eyes ... when I weight spending a million dollars on one book ... or a million dollars on five books, I'll most of the time go with the five book option everytime, unless the one book option is something not readily available. The Doubleday firsts seem to be always available, just at a price. Anyway, whatever ... lol NICE ADDITION! :)

Here's the King pile:
http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/564/couch009.jpg

That has to be camera glare at the top of Skeleton Crew and bottom of The Talisman because the books most definitely don't look like that on the shelf. I've decided to finally finish the US first editions collection. No plan for after that but I'm crafty when it comes to flushing money down the toilet.

Edit: here's another King related book. This isn't new to me but I didn't post it in my collection thread so here it is. The line up of authors is stellar.

The Legends II book is sweet. I actually just sold my copy a month or so ago (It's not the same copy though). I was sad to do it, but I needed the money and anything nowadays with George RR Martin in it commands about 3 times the price it did just last year.

Niels, I'll take a few snapshots. It's too bad it has a bit of water damage (although it's only staining, no wrinkling). But I had never seen this one before either and I heard that this is the hardest one to find (I got lucky, it cost me only half the price of the other issue).

Thanks. Congrats for you also. I bought the same DT S/Ls as you did a month or so ago, together as well, that's funny. I love the double volume thing, you know? It's massive. Love it. The paper is great too, have you checked that out? I know, who cares about paper? lol, but it's cool. :)

Interesting, I would have said that Vol 2 on DTVII is my favorite cover from the set, although DTIII's is cool as well. In any case, enjoy them!

Yep, the two LPs are pretty raw hardcore, borderline powerviolence style. Confines to me sound like a later era Black Flag but little more straight forward. I haven't listed to the Put to death 7" and the Stab demo tape yet. Waste Management are from Boston and they try their best to capture that city's early vibe... stuff like Slapshot, Last Rights, DYS, SSD etc. Vaccine is a 5" record that somehow has 4 songs on it. Raw and violent stuff and VERY straight edge. Painkiller Records will have most of those bands in their audio section.

I haven't bought any records in a long time and all these came out at the same time so I went all out. There's a cool basement show here on the 30th and I'll probably end up going. Sons of Ishmael are playing a reunion show here and in Toronto. They're on Pushead's all time top 10 list. Their bassist teaches at a college here and we ended up going to see Neurosis two months ago. He had funny stories about Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits because he toured with them. I was extremely jelaous. Gorilla Biscuits doing hot knives in Amsterdam? Classic.

My band might play a quick 3 song set too. Our singer quit and the new guy knows only 3 songs. It'd be cool to see how he sounds in a live setting.

Awesome! I haven't listed to true hardcore in a fairly long time (lately it's mainly been a bit more 'progressive' stuff like Burst, Tesseract, The Ocean and also some extreme death metal bands like Origin) so your post is definitely inspiring. I hope you get a chance to play a couple of songs, should be great!

Great that someone else here listens to death metal ! My favourite right now is Graveworm , a little more melodic than Origin .
Swedish band In Flames is a great band too

Hannes, be sure to check out Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, my favorite Opeth albums.

Good stuff. They are probably my favorite current band with Katatonia a close second. I was introduced to them with Blackwater Park. Those are great albums, one of my favorites would be The Moor although i adore all of their work. They are working on a new one titled Heritage supposed to be out sometime this year if i remember correctly. Have you had the chance to see them live? I'd highly recommend it, the best show i've been to.

As not to go completely off topic, my newest acquisition is And The Hippos Boiled In Their Tanks by Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs. Haven't had the funds recently to pick up any new King items; hell, i still need to get Full Dark, No Stars :(.

I didn't get a notification either... it just popped up on my doorstep a couple of days ago. big (very big) ... nice surprise.

don't have pics... lazy right now... but it basically looks just like the SOD1 lettered... matched cases, covers, etc... only my SOD 1 got missed in the lettering process...has a blank there... was supposed to be letter "N"
the SOD 2 got lettered correctly.

it's a big nice looking presentation... but a lot lighter than it's size would have you think it is would be... from it's size, it looks like it should have the weight of the big salem's lot limiteds - but it's a lot lighter.... must be all the short stories are lighter reading material ;)

Hi Everyone-

Time for a little show and tell. I've been away for awhile (say sorry) but I have not been idle. As owner of Betts, you can imagine that I see quite a few nice items, only to pass them along to a new owner. Well, I finally stopped a few of these items from traveling again outside of my home. A couple of these I have wanted for a very very long time and either could not find them at a reasonable price (a signed 1st edition UK Shining...I LOVE the DJ artwork!) or could not justify keeping them in my collection (Lettered Regulators). Plus I am over the moon pleased with the Night Shift traycases I got recently. Dick, your work is just amazing!. And finally, for years, I have had a nice collectible 1st edition US Shining but have always been looking for a superb copy. I finally found one and it came in a custom made traycase as well...all at a great price. So, I thought I'd share my recent Pride and Joys with you all. Now, on to the show.....................

UK Shining

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Shining_UK_1.jpg

Very early signature on this UK Shining

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Shining_UK_2.jpg

Regulators Lettered (with this addition, I now own a Lettered, a numbered S/L, the only prototype done of the S/L (1 of 1), a S/L UK Regulators/Desperation and a signed 1st edition US Regulators. Guess I need to find a signed UK edition now to complete the set.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Regulators.jpg

This one is Letter "R"

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Regulators_R.jpg

I bought 2 Night Shift custom traycases recently...Letters "B" (Children of the Corn) and "N" (Jerusalem's Lot). OUTSTANDING WORK!!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_Traycase_1.jpg

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_Traycase_2.jpg

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_Traycase_3.jpg

My signed 1st edition F-/F- Night shift looks great in the case

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_Traycase_4.jpg

At long last, I found my virtually perfect copy of the Shining

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Shining_Traycase_1.jpg

It came in this rather nice traycase too!

This weeekend I was fortunate to acquire two paintings by Robert Addison, the artist featured in my Second Coming prototype. This first painting is titiled Seven Oaks and was completed in 1972. It looks like the kind of place the Ghost Brothers of Darkland County might reside!

The second painting is titled Winter Morning and was completed in 1976. No SK tie-in but I think it is a nice image.
