Bill, you have the right idea.
I just had a good laugh.
I have a KNOWING DARKNESS which I never took out of the shrinkwrap. I have no idea what edition it is. Will sell as is for $1,000,000.

I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
Bob Jackson (carlosdetweiller) has one of the deluxe copies but alas, he's no longer a member of the forum. I miss his contributions a lot...
I can't tell you how many times I would google something about Centipede Press and end up at a forum post of his. Without him I probably never would have found the site! He quit before I joined, which is sad, and what is even sadder is that he deleted all his collection pictures so now I can't even look up some of the books I want to just look at There are precious few pictures of the Centipede Press deluxe books out there...
I'm happy that Paul did that conversation with him! It was a nice peek into so much of the stuff that I missed.
Price reduction to $900,000.

I don't have a version of this but Amazon has some for sale. I don't know how accurate these prices are:
Used 9 of them going from $545.99-$3,214.59
New 2 of them. One is $3,943.01 and the other is $6061.27
Again, I don't know anything about this book then what I read on CP website but those prices seem to go to the extreme.
When I joined this site and first laid eyes on Bob's collection thread I was floored. I literally had no idea such collections existed (neither did I know anything about limited editions, 1st printings, you name it). I'm now used to seeing all these wonderful and extensive book collections (and there are many great ones) but Bob's will always be the benchmark for me.
I find a good rule of thumb is that when quoted material starts coming up in single letters, it's time to stop and take a breath!!! lol

Two years later I was talking with George and he mentioned he had made a one-only prototype acrylic slipcase for that version and he sold it to me. The other ones he had made were for the larger version of the book.

This Knowing Darkness debate is fascinating. I was interested to see what it would go for as I asked about its value awhile back. No one seemed to know really. I also got the signed edition from a member on here for a great price and thanks to the generosity of another member I now have one of the acrylic cases which snazzes it up even more! Markets change. Those two wanted one badly, who's to say the next one that could come up would go that high? This is what makes collecting so fascinating/frustrating!
Side note before we get to far off track: I'll be in the Southwest region come Sept and I really hope to fit in a trip to see Bob's collection. I don't know if time will permit but I'm going to try. I lived about 1.5 hours from him for 15 years and had no idea. Always late to the party. SMH.
Your interest was what started the previous conversation
Because it's fun to be right on the internet, my reply at that time was:
My knowledge of King overall pales in comparison to most members of this site, but I do know Centipede Press
Can you please secretly take pictures of all his Centipede Press books for me

I passed on that proof due to the probability of extensive damage
about the pet sematary proof for $30: I noticed just now in the listing it was sold by Discover Books. I bought one from them advertised exactly the same on ebay some months ago: "Pet Sematary (Uncorrected Galley Proof)". When it arrived it was a mass market pb. I complained and got a refund.
This looks like a scam to me. Moving from ebay to abebooks to try to strike again. If anyone here has bought it, please let us know what it was.
Here's the email I got back after complaining:
Thank you for your email. We are terribly sorry you have received an incorrectly listed item. We strive to accurately list and ship books, however sometimes errors occur. We have issued a refund and apologize for this inconvenience. You may keep or donate the book that was sent to you.
