Might as well start posting the leftovers, right?
Here's a MEGA hit from 1980:
Dolly Parton -- 9 to 5 (1980)
And as long as I'm on movies, how about:
Irene Cara -- Fame (1980)
I have tons of leftovers too, but just wanted to lament that I'm shocked "Rock of Ages" and "Rock You Like a Hurricane" did not get seconded. Oh well! If we had the time, I'm sure we could come up with 112 nominations per year, not per five years, so lots and lots of great music had to be left behind. But we can still discuss these "leftovers", such as:
Tears for Fears - Shout (1984)
Two more from movies:
Vangelis -- Chariots of Fire (main theme) (1981)
Vangelis -- Blade Runner (var. music) (1982)
I like so much of Elton John's work (with the exception of one song that makes me want to stab out my eardrums with an icepick). Even the songs that make no lyrical sense are still captivating. Here's one that didn't make the list:
Elton John -- I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues (1984)
It seems the world forgot about Sheena Easton, who was quite popular back in the early '80s. I guess that could either be a good thing or a bad thing, based on your perspective. Anyway, here's three I had on my list:
Sheena Easton -- 9 to 5 (Morning Train) (1980)
Sheena Easton -- For Your Eyes Only (1981)
Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton -- We've Got Tonight (1983)
Oh I didn't forget her!!!
I always wanted a threesome with her and Nina (99 luft balloons)
All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
We missed...
In 1984...Metallica joined up with the Jews and read their bible for what is, IMHO the second metal anthem...second only to Rainbow's (Dio) "Man on the Silver Mountain" with Creeping Death!!
Metallica- Creeping Death (1984)
All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
Great, I enjoy doing them. I was surprised to see half of the nominations coming from just the last two-year period of the five.
Yes...while looking through I kept saying "Man...the 80's sure had some total CRAP music... but great stuff too.
All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
28 in 23 (?)!!!!
63 in '23!!!!!!!!!!

The Houston Astros cheated Major League Baseball from 2017-18!!!! Is that how we teach our kids to play the game now?????
This thread is closed for nominations, Bill. No more seconding.
However, feel free to continue to suggest or discuss songs from this era.
Hmmm, I forgot how much I love this David Bowie song:
(aka Theme from Cat People; Putting Out the Fire with Gasoline)Putting Out Fire (1982)
We had one Billy Idol song go through (White Wedding) and two more nominated but not seconded (Rebel Yell and Dancing with Myself).
I'd also like to mention his cover of Mony Mony. I love the original (and it was seconded in the appropriate thread), but here is a rare case where a cover of a loved classic does a fantastic job as well.
Billy Idol -- Mony Mony (1981)
And speaking of Billy, we neglected this popular song from another Billy--Billy Joel.
Billy Joel -- It's Still Rock and Roll to Me (1980)
Yeah. I do have a great Billy Joel song lined up from 1989.
Here's a rap/funk/who-the-hell-knows-what-genre-this-goes-in ditty:
Frankie Smith -- Double Dutch Bus (1981)
