Oh, many, many thanks for that, WDIL!!! They are handsome and the "black/brown" could work with my other mahogany" ones. The biggest problem is that once I have a new case, I'll be compelled to fully fill it!!! LOL

Rest assured though, since it is a thought in my mind, I WILL find a way to justify it!! LOL LOL

Shelves are sturdy. I've had the deluxe Knowing Darkness, 'Salem's Lot gift and Secretary of Dreams sitting on mine for three years and it's still as straight as an arrow.

I prefer the Billy bookcases, as I have 9' high ceilings in my office, and I can extend those. This is an old pic, but it gives you an idea:

After the bulk of my collection spending the last three years in storage boxes, I now have most of it unpacked and loaded into my new bookcases.

I made the trek to Ikea yesterday and finally picked up a couple of new bookcases.
Apologies for the horrible phone photo. I'll post better photos when I start my collection thread.

Scoots, looks like we got the same bookcase model, just in different colors. Congrats and thanks again for the link. I am still very happy with them. As you said earlier, it's weird that the bottom is removable as it seems less stable that way. But since I have them loaded up, it hasn't been a problem.

I like the first set with the top hinged doors, but am unsure of how well they work on the lower shelves. Do they slide into the cabinet?

No, only the barrister style bookcases slide back into the cabinet...the ones with the hinged doors all just open out. There's just enough clearance on both sides of my desk for the barrister to open on the left and the hinged door style to open on the right, as shown here:



If my desk was half a foot longer, though, I'd be in trouble.

Assembled one of two Billy Bookcases from Ikea today for my son's bedroom. The first one went very easy. Opened the box to the second one, only to find broken pieces, preassembled pieces, and parts in ziploc bags. In other words, the book case was returned, and sold again as new!! Called Ikea immediately, since I live in Wisconsin and Ikea is in Illionois, an hour-and-a-half away. Hoping that they ship just the pieces I need, but I have to wait 72 hours while my 'case' gets reviewed. I've never had a problem with them before, but to sell something as new that is a complete piece of junk is just mind-boggling.

I will tell you that I bought something from them with a bunch of missing parts, and after the 72 hours, they were pretty quick with getting me parts, although they had to come from 2 different places. I bought 20 Billy bookcases from Ikea
Each one took a half hour to put together
Luckily I had no issues.
They are really great for the cost.

I have four bookcases in my study where most of my books are stored. I really like them, but I wanted to get some cases with doors. Rather than start over again, I had a local carpenter build doors for all 4 cases. I think he did an excellent job:

Eric, those doors look great. I just purchased a Globe-Wernicke bookcase and I'm in the process of touching it up. It should be ready soon and I'll post pics. Thought I did well at $225.
