I might be tempted in ES, depending on price.
also: what specifically is the difference between a lettered & a numbered Gunslinger other than the obvious?
I don't recall ever seeing one.

The only difference between the numbered Gunslinger and the lettered one is the number. Otherwise, they're identical.

I have a question about edition of insomnia.
I know that there are two states of the DJ...
And what about the book itself?
In the Catalog it says that the book is "Quarter bound in white cloth with grey boards having grey pastedowns"
and what about buarter bound in white cloth with red boards having white pastedowns. Is it another state or maybe a BCE?
Looking for:
S/L: "Insomnia" (#117), "Firestarter", "EOTD #98"
US 1st/1st: "Night Shift"
Portfolios: "'Salem's Lot", "Cycle of Werewolf" (#192)
please help me find any #731 or #431

I'm not sure... I seem to remember that someone once told me that it's an interesting book. It's from 1989, I'm not really sure what aspects of King and his work it is about. But there is one on eBay for a decent BIN price and it ends in less than an hour so I thought I'd ask for some last-minute opinions.
Very quickly, can someone nutshell what I DO look for on ebay? I am intrigued by the King collectables but this is as of today!!
Your question is much too open-ended. Are you interested in signed limiteds, first editions, proofs, promotional items, or what? There's an entire plethora of choices to make.
John
Just seen this and the auction has probably ended, but I have a copy of this. It's a 90 page softcover that gathers all of Kings work up as far as 'IT'. It includes novels, short stories, uncollected short stories, films and 'Danse Macabre'. Basically the author (James Van Hise) gives a short synopsis of every story and film, and in a lot cases gives a personal critique. There are illustrations interspersed throughout the book from a variety of artists, all black and white. It's an interesting curio but it boils down to reading one mans opinions on King's work up that point in time. I see it back up on Ebay for a BIN of $16.99. For that price I would say it's worth a punt.
In that case, I'd start with simply buying as many hardcover editions as you can. If it were me, I'd try to locate the first edition, first printings of King's books. The recent books shouldn't be too hard to find. Of course, I should warn you that collecting King can easily become addictive!
John
Spoken for truth. I also find it's affordable and fun to try to hunt down the older paperback first printings and movie tie-in versions. There's some great design and cover art on the 70s and 80s stuff. And there's always the Bachman paperback originals--but be careful, like jhanic states--they can be a gateway to obsession.

Thank you all for your comments. I'll be sure to post/share any possible purchases!
Thanks, Clacke! You're right, at that price it doesn't really matter so I decided to go for it (the seller had two copies so there's still one left).
Like John said, start with the first edition/first printing trade hardcovers. These will keep you busy for a while! Why start with first editions/first printings and not with random 'hardcovers'? It really is true that collecting books can become a slightly obsessive-compulsive behavior and if that is your fate too, you will thank us for this advice later on - many, many people started out buying random stuff, only to have to get 'upgrades' at a later stage.
Pay attention to the following:
1) Identifiers for first edition/first printing books can be found here: King Collectibles Catalog and here: Identifying US First Editions.
2) If a book is supposed to have a price on the dust jacket, make sure the copy you want to buy has one.
3) Try to find a copy that is in nice shape. The dust jacket is where the core value lies so make sure it's not damaged (it's harder to find the older books in great shape).
Good luck and if you're not sure about something, just ask here.
Also, one of our esteemed moderators should probably move this discussion to the Collecting Questions thread
Ric,
I noticed your looking for "The Little Sisters of Eluria" Artist Ed.
I believe Donald Grant Publ. still has these available on they're website.
