"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Good one Alan. I think my entry would be very similar.
The pic will need to be a current face pic. Otherwise don't enter.

Well, now that I have a gift edition worthy of the traycase, I need the traycase and prints lol.
I'm not about to ask if anyone has any of those 'Salem's Lot page blocks that people have had custom bound recently, but does anyone have anything similar to that sort of thing up for sale? I like the idea of a custom bound edition of a King novel in my collection and see there is a local Book binder I could try out if I had some source material to use. Thanks
I can't help you but I remember that a number of Six Stories 'signatures' were sold on eBay a couple of years ago. I don't recall if they were only a few signatures or the complete text block but that would be a nice one to give a custom treatment. I'm pretty sure some of our friends here got those.
If you don't go down the road of limited editions you could always buy a cheap trade copy of a favorite novel and have that rebound.
The cost of binding a book is the prohibitive factor. Paying hundreds of dollars to bind a paperback page block doesn't make much sense to me. Paying it to bind a limited edition page block does.
If you keep an eye out you will eventually find limited editions with damaged boards at a discount.
"One day you're going to figure out that everything they taught you was a lie."
I worry this will become commonplace.... Making it a collectors nightmare. I think I am going to shy away from these. The Lot's are BEAUTIFULLY done.. but, I have to draw a line somewhere. As I am sure most of us do...

I love this concept of rebinding books, but you do make a good point here, and it's also something that has concerned me about it. That of potentially becoming a collector's nightmare... Primarily, I'd imagine for those who have that 'completist' vein running through them like I do...
