There are also ultra marathons that last two days. They're basically trail 200 km runs through forests and nature preserves and you have two days to complete them. You can't just walk them, you need to run them (for the most part) to finish because there is a cut-off time. I can't imagine what kind of shape you have to be in to do one of these.

I'm training for a marathon and man, running 5 times a week is gruelling. The plan I've been following since last Fall calls for "tempo runs" until race day. TR is basically the race tempo. I hate it. It sucks. I don't know why I'm doing it other than I want to do it. I'm done with "easy runs", fartlek, hill training, speed work. Now it's just TR and long runs on Sundays, as well as strength training twice a week. I'm aiming for a sub-two hour half marathon and 4:15 marathon time.

I want to compete in an IronMan in 2016. It'd be nice to take the family to Hawaii for a vacation and do the competition there. Still, a 2k open water swim, 200 km bike ride and then a full marathon and all that in under 17 hours.

Have fun! I last ran a marathon in 2003. A bad hip has prevented me from running long distances any more though. I definitely miss it!

I don't know if many of you are watching the Winter Olympics in Sochi, but 'we' (the Netherlands) landed another speed skating victory! After winning gold, silver and bronze (5 km for men) on Saturday and gold (5 km for women) yesterday we now won gold, silver and bronze on the 2x500 m for men!!

A couple of years ago I had a coworker who would compete in those all over the world.
He was actually a former Olympic marathon runner when he was younger.

Talking to him always made my morning runs seem so underwhelming.

If the federal government is spending more why do some people like to bring up the fact that spending against the GDP has actually gone down? Seems to me like those things are not truly related and and the level of spending should not be based on the GDP it should be based on a budget.

This is not a "golden hair flip" just an acknowledgement that, Rick made some valid points (even though he remains on my personal "shit" list). These boards do not revolve around me and my causes and I may have lost focus on that fact. I'm just re-evaluating my stance and contributions. Identity theft. They just found out someone used their Social Security Number to file a fraudulent tax return (presumptively to get a rebate).
