It did take Don a bit of work, research and reaching out to get this signed.... and in fact it was part of why we invited him and provided him a ticket to the Sarasota event.
His efforts paid off when he was given a direct way to see what he wanted to provide for our Haven Fundraiser did get signed.
Don shared some stories with me and our group before and after the signing and totally believes in The Haven Foundation and it's purpose.
He is a very interesting artist and man who enjoyed sharing a beer with us and joined right in our conversations.
Did you know he is also the artist behind the Captain Morgan logo?
Don Maitz lives on the outskirts of Sarasota... Was actually married to Janny Wurts on Casey Key... out by where King now has a house.
He has some art in the Museums in Sarasota.
Here is a picture of my bottle of Captain Morgan we shared at the pre-signing gathering... signed by Don.
That's very cool, Jim. Especially since you drank it first!
It was a gift at the gathering from Roseanebarr .... and we shared it with a few attendees... Still a little left.... ahhhh maybe it is time for an afternoon cocktail.
On most occasions I would not carry Knowing Darkness to an event however since I was driving and using my brothers studio... it came along and was also signed by Don.
I apologize if you feel I over-hyped this item. It certainly is the greatest item, "I" have ever assembled. Especially when you take into account all that was included, Don and his drawing, The Sarasota event and Jim's party as well as the rare king special signing. A lot went into getting this book to auction. It was the usual "Team" effort.

Game of Thrones: The cult French novel that inspired George RR Martin......... gets an introduction by GRR Martin !

At the end of the article... "Druon's books have waned in popularity even in France in recent years, according to Lichfield. "I wonder how many French Game of Thrones fans have even heard of him," he says. But history may be coming full circle. The Accursed Kings sequence is being reissued in English translation, complete with Martin's introduction. It may be that Druon will find a whole new audience on the recommendation of the writer his books influenced."

There's nothing like farm league ball, I absolutely love it. The games are much more fun, you get a lot more chances to get up close and personal with the players, it's cheap ... it's nothing like going to an MLB game. For those you really have to plan, fight crowds and traffic, spend $$$, and the seats most of can afford just aren't what the greatest. It's nice to catch a game every once in awhile, but it's not like AA or AAA where you can decide to go a half hour before game time and get in with good seats! Plus you get to see all the guys who are working their way up; after tonight's game down the street, they may get called up and be playing down the highway tomorrow. I saw on CNN tonight that the Rockies' Charlie Blackmon went 6 for 6, only the second player to do it in team history ... he played for the Sky Sox most of last year, we saw him all the time and got his auto on a couple of balls. Way cool.I'm trying to position my financial stability for retirement! I have been paying college bills since 2002 and that doesn't end till sometime later this year. Lot of dollars that could have gone into my 401K! But my kids all are educated, three have decent jobs and one is working for a pittance but as an intern in the field he wants to be in - that being baseball. My son Brett just graduated, he walks in May, lives at home and I am still paying his apartment rent as he has a lease throu June, and he is currently an intern as the Potomac Nationals (Wash Nat's Single A Affilliate) Ticket Manager. It's his "ticket" into working for MiLB or eventually MLB! He orks long long hours and gets paid probably less than $2 and hour (and that includes his commissions!!!!! Its a good thing he loves baseball!
Incidentally, out at the P-nats stadium they have a Hall of Fame wall with a few greats you might know; Pettitte, Posada, Bernie Williams, Maglio Ordonez, Pujols, Bonds, and bobby Bonilla to name a few stars that passed through Single A ball here! When I first moved to Northern VA this team was the Prince William Yankees, then they became the Prince William Cannons and now the Potomac Nationals!
Our team, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies AAA) has their home opener is next Friday; we're all going of course. This past week they held two events; Kid's Day was on Saturday (where kids get tickets to all Sunday home games, a t-shirt, and get to run the bases after all those Sunday games) and then on Tuesday they had a VIP luncheon to introduce the team and kick off the season. That's mostly for season ticket holders (which I'm not), limited to 100 people, but I got a guy ... so surprised my son by pulling him out of school and taking him to that. They had a couple of players sitting at each table, and you got to BS with everybody all the way up to the team owner. Erick was the only kid there (which I found really hard to believe ... other parents just suck!) and he made the most of it, working the crowd. He ended up getting his jersey signed by 23 of the 25 players, the coaches, and even the owner. Pretty cool.
Did I mention I love AAA baseball?

Early in 2009, I started thinking and working on a project related to Stephen King, whose original (working) title was "Recommended by Stephen King" and deal with King's recommendations for books, movies and music.
Despite the fact that I started it, i also did let it go for awhile which allowed me to think more about it and consider how to develop it further.
Later on, I went back to it, and a lot more seriously. Browsed hundreds of essays and texts by King in order to make it more "comprehensive". I also started contacting publishers as well as agents (as in the english speaking world agents seems extremely important for contacting "major" publishers who are more likely to be able to deal with the copyright issues).
After trying to make it work for several years (with breaks in the meantime), I am just giving up. Especially since at the end of last year, when meeting King in France I mentionned it to his agent who asked me to contact him by email. We exchanged couple of quick emails but I didn't even get a reply to my second (and more detailed) email which as presenting further the project and idea behind it (which is not solely a project about Stephen King, but more like a discovery guide, based on Stephen King's recommendations).
So here is a picture of one of the ~250 pages manuscript copies that I have sent to some agents and publishers (therefore have been destroyed for most of those) and of some of my copies left.
Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that this project will see the light of the day. I wont either be posting it online for obvious copyright reasons cf King's excerpts.
It's a shame, because I am sure that most collectors would have been interested by it since in the making of it I found quite a few unknown texts / little known texts written by King : from blurbs to couple of lines to sometimes even some paragraphs and longer texts.

That's a real shame, Jeremy. Sounds like a very interesting project.
So I received a book in the mail today, and even though it was not a valuable book (less than $20), I was really annoyed when I pulled the DJ off and found that the protector had been taped directly to the DJ.
I was already annoyed because the seller had shipped the book in a box that I felt was too small, so when I saw the tape on the DJ...i wrote him kind of a crabby email, complaining about the bad packaging and tape damage.
Afterwards, I thought I would see if I could possibly remove the tape without too much damage.....and then I realized that the tape was NOT actually stuck to the DJ....it was in fact stuck to a shiny white piece of paper, and the DJ was safe beneath it.
Another case of take a deep breath before you call someone out.
I just sent an apology.
