So I found this cool Luke figure at a comic store recently, except he's missing his lightsaber. I have high hopes of "fixing" it so I can set it on my desk at work. For now, he's stashed in a drawer. Any time I open the drawer, this is what I see. I can only imagine what my co-workers think every time they open the drawer for something.

They announced December 18, 2015 as the release date for Episode 7.

If that's not exciting enough, other plans include a 2014 Lucasfilm animated set between RotS and ANH on Disney Channel, 2016 Star Wars Origins Han Solo, and then on to 2017's Episode 8. (In the summertime, one would hope.)

I might have been wrong about the origins movie. Newer rumors are that Yoda could be first. Maybe Han Solo in 2018? Is anyone else excited for an onscreen Corellia? Last time I felt this, well, what we got was above par, but I still wanted... more...

Whether this is true or not, is it wrong of me that I really fucking like this idea? I think it would've added shades of grey to someone like Yoda and, imho, would've made the relationship between him and Obi-Wan more interesting: Yoda more about the greater good while Obi-Wan is more focused on the smaller things. Not that Yoda isn't totally awesome enough already, but still, I can't help but wonder what could've been in this case.

I'm.excited for a new trilogy I really am. I can't wait to see where they take this. But, I swear to Gan, after reading some articles online about the new Star Wars story team, that is suppose to decide on the definitive Star Wars continuity, I have one thought. If they fuck with my expanded universe I will be beyond pissed off. The books are great, and they all happen in the same continuity as the movies. The X-Wing books are one of the first book series I ever read. The New Jedi Order shook the very foundations of the Star Wars universe. Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi will go down as two of the best Star Wars stories ever told. It would be downright criminal if they.decided.to ignore.all of that and just make up a new continuity.

It would be a shame, but whether the EU remains 'canon' or not, does it really matter? The key thing is to just enjoy the story, and if the new films do ignore previously established canon in the books, comics and so forth, well, just consider the EU as your preferred take on it. I've only read about 30 or so books in the Star Wars EU plus a number of graphic novels (fuck me, is Quinlan Voss awesome!), but I do love the direction they've taken the characters in, especially what I've read of the New Jedi Order series. Whether the story of the new films follows the novels or takes the more likely option of telling a completely different story won't affect my enjoyment of either one. It's how good they tell the story that matters.

That's just a gripe I have. It is not spoiling my excitement for the new movies. Disney didn't ruin Marvel and I believe they will treat Star Wars with the.same care.

They are not going to make past EU all canon, but they are going to make future EU all canon. So that's progress. Already it is better continuity than any comparable franchise. Other media was actually never promised to remain part of the official story before. We'll just have to see how much is worked in. I am eager for the upcoming new cartoon!
