"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Wanted: Human skin edition of The Book of the Dead. Will accept PC copy.
Obviously the price on this auction is ridiculous, but the accompanying letters between King and Stu Tinker are pretty interesting.

Yeah, the price is a bit high but thanks for sharing.

IIRC, Stu was removing things, or was given things from when King did a remodel at his Bangor home. Stu sold things he was not supposed to sell, and when word got back to Tabitha that Stu had done something wrong, the King's got upset and generally disassociated themselves with Stu.
Hello Jerome,
Yep that's what I understood, but I wonder what that means clapboard?
Any ideas of what that includes? An article ABOUT King I am guessing

Yes, an article by Corinne Alessi-Greene
Author of The Road to the Dark Tower, Stephen King: A Complete Exploration of His Work, Life, and Influences and The Dark Tower Companion. Co-editor with Stephen King of the anthology Flight or Fright.
Clapboard: https://www.google.com/search?q=clap...&bih=626&dpr=1
The King's were remodeling, and I believe (based upon what I was told), Stu was going to take scrap items and sell them. That included the scrap clapboards removed fro the house.
This is tertiary evidence so should not be quoted as fact.

That's great fortune. Congratulations!
After much deliberation, and after seeing how fast these started going, I got one as well. My thinking at the time was that I would also bid on an auction for a signed copy that had a really bad exterior. I would then send them both to a book binder and have the signature page put in the printer's copy, thus procuring a signed edition for ~$1500 or so. However, the damaged edition sold for way above what I thought it would (over $1400) given the condition.
Anyway, mine arrived yesterday and I flipped through it but did not check for a signature page. After seeing your message, I opened mine back up, and lo and behold - a signature page!! Wow!!!
If you had not checked, I'm not sure how long it would've taken me to find out, if ever!!
My heart is racing!
I just can't believe this luck! And the book was definitely opened before he sent it - the brown paper packaging was re-sealed with scotch tape.
I feel like I need to go out and do something extra good for other humans right now, I just can't believe this. Part of the reason that I am freaking out is that (as you can tell from my signature) Centipede Press is my most serious collecting passion and a signed copy of Salem's Lot is one of my holy grails. And that I might have never known is very scary.
EDIT: I do kinda feel sorry for the guy. I think he got them at a rock bottom price and still made plenty of money but he could have doubled or tripled it. I do not, however, feel sorry enough to send him more money. But I will pay my good luck forward in some other way!
That's fantastic news. I love it when a member/s get surprised like this.
Christmas all over again.
