God damn. This is one of *my* holy grails. My favorite novel of all time. At just about any point in the last few years I would jump on this at $1200. But right now I just can't swing it.
Two months ago, this book would have been purchased and already on the way. Now, with no income, I simply can neither afford it nor justify it.
Margaret Emmie Mackey Catoe, you are, have been, and always will be my soulmate, and I love you.

Those scratches can be repaired.
and they are on the back. if you display it, you never have to show the side with scratches. Even if you don't repair it, the book is worth the price. And that book inside is a beaut!

Wow...at that price, even despite the damage I'm surprised it hasn't sold...
$1,200 is still a tough BIN price. The case damage (which BTW thanks to the seller for actaully noting it) scares-rightfully so a buyer.
The trouble, time worry, shipping etc. to restore (or just ignore, but always know that it is there) the case scratches lowers the potential.
The BIN is too high for me-and I know I could have it restored to pristine, but that adds several hundred dollars in time and effort.
It may be less expensive to buy one without damage than to try and rehab this one.
Still will probably sell-It is the 'Holy Grail'.
This is definitely one I have seriously been considering. I do not own any of the S/L's yet and of all the S/L's it is the one I really want, The Stand is my favorite story. But as RF says I will always know the damage is there and I am just not sure I would be happy once I bought it. I guess I will have to "sleep on it" and see how I feel in the morning. If someone else gets it, good for them, and it was not meant to be mine.
I agree with RF...I've seen Two of these sell for $1400 in the last two months in fine condition...
I believe it would be simple to sand out the scratches on the box..the hard part would be to match the new paint with the rest of the box.
Just my opinion.

Remember, Remember, The Fifth of November, The Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot.
My finger keeps hovering above my mouse and pointer over the "Buy It Now" button. But I am going to pass. The picture showing the copyright page shows browning/foxing or whatever on the page edges forming about a half inch border around each page. That just makes the book seem less desirable to me. I think the browning/foxing is excessive.
Anyone here the person that swooped in on this one?

Use a sniping service like www.auctionsniper.com - I do too. It felt sort of 'unfair' at first but that feeling quickly goes away when you start winning auctions.
Sniper bids will never beat someone with a higher bid.
Of course, but once you've decided on your maximum bid you can just let it run. Either way you 'win' - if you get outbid in the end at least you haven't spent more money than you were willing to pay. If you end up being the highest bidder you're likely to pay less than you would after a bidding war.
I've never used a sniping program. How is that different from putting in your max bid?
