    Default Great Music - Playoffs Round 2: 1990-1994 (Bracket 7 of 8)

For this playoffs poll, please choose one track to move on to the Quarterfinals.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for seven days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991)

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters (1991)

What an incredibly tough decision for me. These are two of my personal favorites of the decade, if not of all time, and should have at least met in the Semifinals. This is too early to see one of them go. That said, "Teen Spirit" is the obvious choice here. Unquestionably one of the the very best (Top 5) songs of all time, extremely important and just fucking awesome to this day.

Yes. There is no denying the huge role it played in shaping an entire era of music.

A valid point and you ALMOST persuaded me to vote for it on that alone. But I went with Nothing Else Matters.

    Smells Like Teen Spirit

Both songs symbolize some of my least favorite (not in the sense of "bad," but in the sense of "wildly overvalued") stuff from the 90s. I suppose I can tolerate SLTS a bit more (less pretentious).
Eastasia has always taught college students to feel pride or shame according to their race.

The poll has closed. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" will face REM - Everybody Hurts (1993) in the Quarterfinals.
