    Hi,

I'm new here but have read almost all of Stephen King's books. Just started collecting and have a few questions on the value of items I own.

    1. 'Salem's Lot First Edition 2nd issue Dust Jacket in VG (Father Cody and Q37 Present) Thinking about taking this with me to the Mason Award presentation and getting it signed. Any idea of the value of it unsigned as well as signed?

    2. The Stand First Edition (T39 Present) VG+

    3. The Shining First Edition (R49 Present) VG/NF

Thinking about taking The Stand and Salem's Lot to get them signed. Is that a good idea or should I substitute The Shining? Thanks in advance, looking forward to reading replies!

Welcome to TDT.org and Calvin's Corner, ndnick30! (or do you prefer your full screenname, or something else?) For someone who just started collecting, you've got some sweet First Editions in your collection already.

I've only got one of the three you list, so I can't say. I'm sure other members will come along shortly to offer their opinions.

First off, Welcome to the site!!! Second, OK here goes, but I have been able to get some good deals since the market has recently been changing.

    1. I think I more or less "Stole" my copy for $350, so they can be had at the right timing, but generally this is about a $7-800+ book, depending on condition, unsigned. I'd say you could add 2-250 easy for a signed edition.

    2. The Stand is difficult, as with many of the DD books in that condition varies so much, but I would say $300-400 unsigned would be approximate.

    3. The Shining, again, I got a good deal at $250-275, but depending on condition up to $500. Timing and the seller are everything, plus your ability to "shop"!!!

As far as any of those being signed, I'll defer to others as I tend to really "pick & choose" the signed editions I buy according to personal preference.

A great reference is this site:

    Which is worth more:
    A) The stand 1/1-pretty good copy but has "this book belongs to..." written inside.
    or
    B) the stand 1/1 ..has a ding to it in the middle of front cover board(?) with a slight lean to it.

    B.

The writing devalues the book significantly.

Can someone tell me what a first edition, hardcover, Bachman Books is worth? I have seen the price vary on this and I am wondering what is a fair price to pay.

In my estimation a First Edition First Printing which is the most important thing, with a fine dust jacket ( that means little or no oxidation of the gold lettering) is somewhere in the vicinity of $130 - 150 depending on condition. The price drops precipitously for later printings.

US Goatskin is available, it just sounds more exclusive to use/cite a foreign source.

In regards to the singed/limited SALEM'S LOT(black ink)....Opinions about the book in general? So, would anything under $900 be a good or great price for the book? Just curious to know.

I would say yes to great if condition is right.
