    WOWOWO...
    Hold your horses.

The WS edition of Mr Mercedes has content not published anywhere else?
If I remember correctly, it was an absolutely useless introduction of about 1 page or even less.
But we all know how anal we can all be about such texts, as long as they are writen by stevie :p

edit : it was the Waterstone exclusiv edition of DOCTOR SLEEP that contained an exclusive "Authors Note". My mistake

Oh! Well...less money to spend then. But I think the Doctor Sleep edition intro was also present in the regular edition. I'll go an check since I have both Doctor sleep editions.

Just checked and there's no difference in the contents...

I think it's interesting that everyone of my family members that don't read Steve ever asked me this week if I got the new book and that they really liked the first one.
I guess he's adding some cop/crime/mystery novel fans with these.

That's because it is in the front of the Waterstones edition.

There was no Waterstones edition of Mr. Mercedes. There was one, with the extra material, for Doctor Sleep. Waterstones did a variant for Revival but only with the colored page edges. No extra material.

Yeah, there are lots of people out there that will read an award-winning book without being familiar with the author. My wife likes to clip out the NY Times bestsellers list from our Sunday paper and try to read those.

And I also think that crime readers who weren't really paying attention to King that much, might do so knowing it won the award.

That's weird to me. I guess I get it. I'm surprised Steve still has that horror stigma though. Although mys sisters still make that face (you know the sneer something smells bad face) when I say that I'm reading an SK book.

Really? Of the 50+ novels he has published, how many were "Horror" related and how many not? I'm just saying, it's what he is known for, The Horror Master", right? His next book is "The Bazaar of Bad Dreams", after all. Led Zepplin is labeled as a "Hard Rock" group despite the extensive, blues, folk, country, etc influences and products. Same with "Queen". Not trying to argue, just discussing is all.

I hope FK is better than Mr Mercedes. I couldn't even finish that one. Probably about half way through and have no interest whatsoever of finishing it. And I hate that cause I love King so much....

The general consensus from what I've seen is that it's better. I've read it and I really liked it. I do feel it is better than Mr Mercedes.

The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. I havn't read a negative one yet. Is it too early to throw out the "near universal praise" statement? Long live the King!

    I'm starting it today.

I've heard that it is better than Mr Mercedes too. Faster paced. A page turner.

    Sound good to me!

I hear ya, I'm just thinking that the people that don't read him are the Green Mile Shawshank watchers, they have to know that he writes non-horror stuff.
But I mean I am related to those people, they're all reading FK and loving it.

He's also getting reviewed in prominent places by other crime/mystery writers, like Laura Lippman and John Connolly.

I don't recall anyone mentioning this review from the New York Times:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/31/bo...s-keepers.html

    They also recently had this:

Thanks for posting those links. In the 2nd one, when he is asked what genres he likes and doesn't like to read, I think it's funny how he says "I don’t have much interest in 'relationship' novels or romance." That was surprising to me given how incredibly he writes relationship/romance. Wizard & Glass and 11/22/63 come to mind. The romantic relationships in those were some of the best I've read.

I think I remember reading Stephen King stating that he found the romance sections of Wizard and Glass difficult to write. Or maybe it was just the thought of it how he'd go about it he found difficult.

And while relationships occur in many of his other books, they're not all that romantic.
