500 manuscript is short for a King book, no? not sure if that accounts for the huge font that he uses, but it should be significantly shorter when officially published.

Probably closer to 400 pages -- although that 500-page MS was first draft.

Still a very sizable book. I really love how the last few King books have just been matter-of-factly mentioned in passing (Joyland, Mr. Mercedes, Revival). That is not by any official announcement.

Default Revival - Am I the only one?

I may have missed a message, but did nobody else consider the idea that Revival is a new Dark Tower novel?

    Two things:
First, the title follows the same RE- format as the other books' subtitles.
Second, the name is apropos to a continuation of Roland's saga.

It'd be great to see King write the Dark Tower again as another iteration of Roland's quest, as he's hinted about doing so for some time already.

An interesting idea. I suspect it won't pan out; but it'd be cool if it did.

    I'm reading it either way.

I agree. Sure would be nice if it was, but the "RE" were subtitles to the actual title of each book. I highly doubt that it is. Nice to dream though.

During his talk in Hartford King very briefly talked about Revival: http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/ctnplayer.asp?odID=9237 (around the 1 hour 3 minute mark).

"The main character is a kid who learns how to play guitar, and I can relate to this guy because he's not terribly good. He's just good enough to catch on with a number of bands and play for a lot of years. The song that he learns to play first is the song that I learned to play first, which was "Cherry, Cherry" by Neil Diamond. One of the great rock progressions: E-A-D-A."

At about 1:18 King said he's written more than five novels that are over 1,000 pages. I'm having trouble figuring out what he five are. I know The Stand, IT, and Under the Dome are over 1,000, but that's only three. Maybe he's talking about manuscript pages, in which case maybe 11/22/63 as well? Maybe he considers The Dark Tower series one novel? Or, maybe "Revival" is another 1,000 pager, which would be awesome.

During King's long and prolific career he's had certain bursts of creativity, and with Revival due in about a year we'll have four King novels in two calendar years. That seems pretty impressive, but of course nothing can compare to his frenetic output in the 1980s, with four novels published in 1981-82, five novels published in 1983-84, and four novels published in freaking 1987 alone. So, in seven years, from 1981 to 1987, there were 19 books published (including the Creepshow comic), of which 14 were novels (13 if you discount Cycle of the Werewolf).

Default Revival. New Dark Tower book?

Stephen King mentioned in a live chat that he's half way through a new book titled Revival. As all Dark Tower books (except for LSOE and WTTK) were called "Re"-something. Is this a new Dark Tower book?

    TDOT3: Renewal
    The Waste Lands: Redemption
    Wizard and Glass: Regard

Highly doubtful. King didn't originate the re- subtitles. Given what we know about the book, it sounds like it has nothing to do with DT.

    Revival by Stephen King

    Publisher: Scribner
    Publication Date: November 11, 2014
    Format: Trade Hardcover
    Retail Price: $30.00
    Pages: 520

    About the Book:
From master storyteller Stephen King comes a spectacularly dark and riveting novel about addiction, religion, fanaticism, and what might exist on the other side of life.

In a small New England town more than half a century ago, a boy is playing with his new toy soldiers in the dirt in front of his house when a shadow falls over him. He looks up to see a striking man, the new minister, Jamie learns later, who with his beautiful wife, will transform the church and the town. The men and boys are a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls, with the Reverend Jacobs — including Jamie's sisters and mother. Then tragedy strikes, and this charismatic preacher curses God, and is banished from the shocked town.

Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from age 13, he plays in bands across the country, running from his own family tragedies, losing one job after another when his addictions get the better of him. Decades later, sober and living a decent life, he and Reverend Charles Jacobs meet again in a pact beyond even the Devil's devising, and the many terrifying meanings of Revival are revealed.

King imbues this spectacularly rich and dark novel with everything he knows about music, addiction, and religious fanaticism, and every nightmare we ever had about death. This is a masterpiece from King, in the great American tradition of Frank Norris, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe.
