I don't know that that one was ever officially released as a standalone.

Wasn't the lettered edition due to be announced today - or this week? Maybe (probably) I'm wrong but I thought it was today or this week. Any updates on it?

I didnt know it either, but apparently it was in : "THE WAVEDANCER BENEFIT: A Tribute to Frank Muller"
    >>> http://www.publishersweekly.com/0-7435-2736-4

But then that isnt orange as MrRabbitTrick says... ?

"On February 2, 2002, Stephen King, Pat Conroy, John Grisham and Peter Straub gathered at New York's Town Hall for a very special evening. These four bestselling authors stepped up to the microphone to raise money for one of the most recognizable voices in audiobooks, Frank Muller, an actor who sustained terrible injuries from a motorcycle accident. Muller, who has recorded hundreds of novels, including many by these authors, may never work again.

This once-in-a-lifetime event is captured here, and 100% of all profits will be donated to The Wavedancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports Frank Muller and other artists who fall prey to illness or injury and can no longer perform.

Grisham kicks off the evening with a heartfelt reading of an excerpt from his blockbuster bestseller The Summons. He's followed by Straub who captivates the audience with a hair-raising episode from Black House, the latest thriller he co-authored with Stephen King. King changes pace with a joyful reading of his classic short story The Revenge of Lardass Hogan. Finally, Conroy engages the audience in a hilarious chat on the art of writing.

A unique program that pays tribute to a true master craftsman, this audiobook is an unforgettable listening experience.

Straight from their newsletter last thursday.

(plus a wonderfully haunting tale from a two-times Booker long-lister—about which more soon) should be more than enough to keep you interested while we put together the finishing touches to the two editions of Carrie. Watch for an announcement soon.

    Hi Folks

Boy, I've put this off for the longest time, so apologies are in order. Still, better late than never. We're all of us so busy here at PS preparing the new titles PLUS the DIP paperback line PLUS the PS Artbooks comic volumes (plus my own writing, of course) that spending too much time on chatrooms is a luxury any of us (but especially me) can ill afford. But I'm here now . . . though I don't know how often I'll get by.

OK. Carrie. It seems like discussing this book and the myriad ways to present everything we've got lined up for it is pretty much all we do. But we're getting there, which is why I (recklessly?) had Mike place a note on the website banner to say we'd make an announcement in the May 9th Newsletter. We'll see if we make it.

Mike has followed the various discussions here on the Dark Tower and he's brought me up to speed with the general tone (particularly all the beefs). Believe me, I'm pleased to hear 'em. I won't always comment because, as I'm sure you would expect, we've been into everything at some length long before we opt for a specific course or approach. But, like I say, we want to hear your opinions so it's always worth letting us know.

Okay, that's it for now. I think it's fair to say that all your questions will be answered in next week's Newsletter so if you subscribe to that then you're good to go. If you're not . . . well, I'm guessing you'll be able to figure out the consequences of that for yourselves.

Take care and keep the faith. Happy reading!

    Best wishes

Thanks, Pete! It's always great to hear directly from the publisher's mouth. I'm sure you've developed thick skin over the years and won't take everything personally. People get passionate here because they are passionate about Stephen King's work. There is usually a goodly amount of praise too.

    Hi Dan, Hi Brian

Oh, I don't take things too much to heart. I would sooner sit amongst folks who care about what they're doing and what's been offered to them than hang out with people who just spend all their time stroking me -- it's the only way I can ensure constant improvement. Rest assured that I'll always listen and, wherever necessary/appropriate, respond accordingly. Certainly, we're aiming for the deluxe CARRIE to take your breath away. And as soon as that baby goes to bed, why . . . it'll be time for THINNER! Sheesh!

    Happy Sunday everybody!

    Pete

Heh, you know, I can be really dumb sometimes . . . and I thought I'd share one with you. I was puzzled for a little while why Dan had included CALL OF THE WILD (COTW) in his listing of first editions related to Stephen King . . . until, after an embarrassingly long time, I figured it out: CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF. Damned acronyms--they'll getcha every time!

Hey, Merlin -- That's kind of you to say. As it happens, I do have something to report. I've spent a lot of the day (even though it's Sunday!) organising the artwork for the Anniversary edition of THINNER. The plan is to have it out as close as possible to 19 November which is when it saw the light of day back in 1984. Where do the years go, huh? Okay, I'm hitting the sack. Thanks for making me welcome here. Best -- Pete

Last week I decided to pull the trigger and order the PS edition of CARRIE. I came into this thread to mention it and see that Pete has joined us. Hi Pete, great to see you posting here! What a wonderful surprise! As John said, it means a lot to us.

    EDIT:

Pete, check out the last photo in this post I made four years ago here at TDT.org to see what Joe Hill had to say about you:

Hey Patrick -- Joe is one of the nicest folks I've ever met . . . and, when you think about the huge number of lovely people in this nutty business, that's quite a compliment. One time when we visited with him, Joe took Nicky and me to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox play (even bought us a couple of caps, which we still wear walking around the Yorkshire seaside. Don't ask me why this whole baseball thing is such a hit for me: just put it down to my being born on 4 July . . . indeed I've always loved baseball stories--starting with DC's STRANGE SPORTS STORIES comic book from the early 1960's and including Malamud's THE NATURAL, Roth's THE GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL, Kinsella's SHOELESS JOE (even the film was fab!), Kahn's THE BOYS OF SUMMER, Michael Bishop's BRITTLE INNINGS, Rio Youers's THE ANGELS and, of course, Steve's BLOCKADE BILLY. One of these days I'll get around to fulfilling a long-time promise I've made to myself and write one of my own. In fact, I have one laid out in note-form, set 'in' my New York tavern, THE LAND AT THE END OF THE WORKING DAY (which is the book Joe signed, of course) . . . so maybe it'll happen before too much longer..

But getting back to that day at Fenway Park, it was truly magical: the air hummed with summer and the sound of people applauding the action out there on the diamond . . . and Joe's dad came over from his own seat and sat with us for a while, helping me (with undisguised amusement) battle my way through scoring. If we can each of us get a handful of days like that one then I figure we're doing okay.

And while we're on the subject of baseball, let me recommend a song for you: Danny O'Keefe's 'Mad Ruth/The Babe' from his album BREEZY STORIES. It's one I recommended to Steve a few years back--it's probably fair to say it says pretty near on all there is to say about baseball and relationships.

Gee, betcha you're thrilled I joined up, huh?! Just let me know when I outstay my welcome and I'll shut up.

    Best

Publishers have all the best stories!
Great stuff Pete! You can go on all day with tales like this as far as I'm concerned
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
