Who said they had to be literal? I like the illustrations. The overall feel and emotions are there and thats what matters to me, not the details.

Thanks very much Needfulthings and Cit74 for the great pics!

Not that that matters. Can't wait to start reading it this weekend. Yes, I'm one of the perhaps few who don't believe in buying books to keep them on the shelf to look at. Books are for reading, and if it's a well-crafted book, I just derive that much more pleasure from the act.
I'm reading my S/L HC right now. Why spend that much money and not get the benefit of the added bells and whistles? I read it ultra carefully, mind you, and sans dj, but, you bet, books are for reading.
That's why they make much cheaper trade editions.

For the price it was a no-brainier to get the signed edition instead if the unsigned.

I agree, but, again, for the price, a trade paperback is a better reading copy.

I don't enjoy reading paperbacks, personally. It's all about the binding, the paper, the smell. A paperback feels cheap and disposable. I never buy paperbacks.

Slightly off-topic but I love paperbacks - both to collect and to take with me (reading copies, of course) when my wife and I go camping/hiking. Easy to throw in a backpack and not worry about whether or not they make it back home in one piece.

Also, paperbacks often have great artwork that is different from the hardcover edition. I like that!

I agree. I also have to say that I like the cover artwork on the paperback more than that on the hardcover. It seems, to me, to be more evocative of the story.

It just seems like several of them have noticeable inaccuracies.

The victim's outfit is wrong in the horror house ride car. King mentions the sleeveless blue shirt several times.
He's got her in a jacket with long sleeves. And why is the killer in the car BEHIND his girlfriend/victim?

Was Mike ever on crutches? I'm only remembering the wheel chair or the cumbersome leg braces.

The ferris wheel has a few issues too.

My POV is, if you're going to draw literal illustrations, get the details right.

Can't argue with you there. You do have a point.

I went to the final space shuttle launch with some friends, getting there several hours before the sun came up so we could flame a decent spot to take pictures from. On the drive down my friend was talking about how much he liked his new Kindle, I said I would stick with paperbacks for reading on trips. When we get our spot staked out and settled in my friend took his kindle out and the screen has about 6 cracks and the display is unreadable. I pulled out my paperback reading copy and told him I can sit on it, drop it, it can even get a little rain on it. If it gets destroyed I can get another for a couple bucks at the used bookstore! Paperbacks are great for taking anywhere.

Yes, you missed it. The Talisman is based on the story of a boy who travels (vague description, I know). The film version was called Joe Dirt. They took liberties in rewriting, but overall I think people liked it.
